How many players in the league would you trade Dirk for

Post#1 » by af420balla » Wed Feb 20, 2008 2:17 am

My dad and I were talking about how many players are in the league who you would trade Dirk for Straight up?
I came up with
Dwight Howard
Carmelo Anthony
Lebron
D Wade
Kobe
Deron Williams
Amare
Boozer
Yao
Duncan
C. Paul
Garnett
Bosh
Okafor
Kevin Durant
I don't think alot of thhose teams would trade those players straight up for Dirk.

Here is a list that I thought debatable
Brandon Roy? Al Jefferson? Elton Brand? Nash? Rudy Gay? Jermaine O'Neal? Baron Davis? We said that Dirk is not a top 10 player anymore. He may be in the top 20, but just a question to think about, who would you be satisfied that the mavs could possibly get and the other team would accept.

Also, would Utah even consider doing a Kirlenko for Jason Terry, Stackhousand something else. After looking at the roster of the mavs, I feel we're definetly less athletic and older. I think Kirlenko, or an Artest would be a nice pickup.

Jason Kidd
Dirk Nowitzki
Erick Dampier
Josh Howard
Jason Terry
Jerry Stackhouse
Devean George
Eddie Jones
Antoine Wright
Brandon Bass
Juwan Howard

Duncan only.

The close but not quite would be Dwight Howard, Lebron, Yao, Amare.

while we might not trade dirk for most of those players im sure those other teams wouldnt trade those players for dirk

i know i wouldnt give up dirk for okafor (that name was just laughable) roy (id probably do roy and aldridge but they wouldnt) JO (so overrated) brand, rudy gay, nash or baron davis.

i dont think id trade for wade b/c of injury concerns, probably not bosh either i dont hate him not sure how well he'd fit here (though im sure he'd do wonders with kidd) o and probably wouldnt trade him for garnett, just never liked him so thats a bit of personal bias. melo would be tough he's a great offensive player and one of the best all around offensive games in the league but his D is worse than dirks.

id have 2nd thoughts about durant b/c of his low shooting % i think if it was up to me right now between him and michael beasley id take beasley.

id have to think about dirk for c. paul and d. williams mainly b/c of big and small but they're doing great things with there teams and would never give them up. boozer would be tough to think about and the only reason id think about it is b/c of the age difference, id have to get more back. and if amare was offered for dirk id probably accept it in the end but he like melo is worse than dirk defensively. also i dont know how hard id think to give up dirk for kobe mainly b/c of the big for small thing but in the end it is still kobe

the only players id say yes without thinking are:

duncan
lebron
dwight howard
yao
oden (even with the injury scare)

yes or maybe but have to think:
amare
CP3
Kobe
Melo
Boozer and Deron (both of these are maybe)
dwade
garnett (also a maybe)

no:
bosh
okafor
roy
JO
brand
nash
gay
baron
al jefferson

so there you have it

yes:
lebron
dwight howard
Kobe

Better be young with a lot of game, or significantly better for me to say yes outright.

yes or maybe but have to think:
amare

Boozer
Deron
dwade
garnett
yao
duncan

no:
bosh
okafor
roy
JO
brand
nash
gay
baron
al jefferson
oden
Melo

Almost exactly what I would pick but I would include KG, Duncan, and Bosh in the Yes category.

Can you imagine KG and Kidd on the same team?

af420balla, you really undervalue what Dirk does for this team, and what he's had to deal with over the past couple seasons.

How is Bosh in the flat out no and Amare is in the think about? Those two definately need to be switched. Amare is not all that great. You also site Wade as an injury no, and don't talk about that with Amare? The dude is injured constantly.

Give me a list of all the other 23/9/4 players that are 6'10" or above, with an efficiency rating of +25, and that'll be the starting place. Then I'd want them to be younger and/or stronger. And I guess I would want this to be an off year for them, since so many people think Dirk is having an off year.

Who's on that list?

Woudn't trade Dirk for Yao or Amare. However I'd trade Dirk for Dwight Howard straight up without blinking and I'd trade Dirk and any other player on our roster the Cavs wanted for Lebron. I don't think there is any player in the league a team wouldn't give up for Lebron. He's 23 and while he hasn't developed his shooting to a high level yet, if he does then it's MJ the 2nd, on offence anyway. He's the best player in the league when combining talent, current playing ability and potential. Easily. I'd also trade Dirk for Chris Paul, who is ridiculous right now and will only likely get better. I wouldn't trade him for Kobe at this point, not because of ability but factors like age and the position he plays at. Though it's marginal.

Lebron and Dwight are the two most valuable players in the league. Neither of them have any baggage, both are young and improving. Most importantly, both are already amazing players.

I'd say any team would give up any player for one of them, with the exception of being traded for each other.

Don't agree with Howard. He still has way too many flaws in his game for me. I still have Lebron up there by himself, and would trade Howard for him if he was on my team and I had the option. He's also young and has time to work on those things, but there are just too many holes in his game still. Though I'd still trade for him straight up for Dirk.
