Thoughts on Antoine Wright

Post#1 » by Realmavsman » Wed Feb 20, 2008 3:54 pm

Apparently the Nets fans were not happy with Wright. They say he is a good defender but he plays scared on offense. His shooting which was great in college has never been good in the NBA. I went back and looked at some of the NBA draft sites to see what they thought about him coming out of college. They had some pretty nice things to say about this guy. Draft Express said best case Ray Allen and worst case Eddie Jones.

That is pretty high praise and obviously he has not lived up to these lofty expectations. He was a great shooter in college and apparently he lost his confidence since he got to the NBA. Maybe a change of scenery will help him. Sometimes guys need a change before things start to improve. I don't think it is too late for this guy to turn his career around. Maybe he will be a useful player.

Good to hear. Maybe Rolando Blackman will become the guy's roommate and develop the kid. Didnt he come out after his Freshman year, or was that the kid in Utah?

I'm hopeful he can develop into a useful player here. He seems to have a lot of potential and i hope getting out of VCs shadow might boost his confidence to regain his shooting. If not he is a solid defender and brings some much needed athleticism to this team.

Rmm, a couple of dirty towels would be satisfactory to replace Ager. But, with this guy - I am quite intrigued about the possibilities. I think he can flourish on our bench and become the complete player we all know he is capable of being. He's home, in Texas and that might have something to do with things. How happy could you be in Jersey versus Big D? The kid will be fine.
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Antoine entered the draft after his junior year. If hes scared on offense, than he better be great at defense or he'll find himself in Averys doghouse, where Hassell used to sit. Im confident he can find his offensive game in Dallas though, I remember watching him at A&M.

i think he is better than ager.
he averaged about 7 points behind VC and RJ.
but i think he has to prove himself in practice.

he will be behind Jones and Terry at SG

Kidd / Terry / Barea
Jones / Terry / Wright
Howard / Stack / George

and when terry is at PG stack could play the 2 if jones' on the bench as well.

i think his situation and style of play is similar to Marquis Daniels

Wright will florish as a Mav. Believe me, he's a perfect fit now that he knows he's the starter if he can produce. Before, no matter what he did as a Net, Carter was always going to be the starter.

They are starting Wright at SG?

My prediction is that he will be starting next season. Eddie Jones certainly won't be here.

lol, only because I go to Texas A&M will I not harrass Wright too much but these predictions of him "flourishing" and "starting" are a bit too much. Kinda like Reyshawn Terry, who was eventually cut.

Nets fan here, don't get too excited for him, I'm glad to see him gone.

I hope he does well for you, he has shown flashes of being able to be a solid 6th man, other than that I've never seen him play like a starter.

Solid defense (did great guarding LeBron in the playoffs last year) but he will miss a lot of open shots, and after he misses 1 or 2 open shots he will start to pass up open shots or just miss even worse. Against the Celtics he had a chance to bring the game to 1 possession on a wide open 3, air balled it, and than House hit an open 3 on us to pretty much end the game.

Those same draft sites said Ager would be good..... do you believe everything you read?

Where the heck did I say I believe that he will be Ray Allen or even Eddie Jones. I didn't realize that quoting something is an implicit agreement with it. I simply stated what the Draft Express said about the guy.

By the way Draft Express said about Ager Best Case Mo Peterson, Worst Case Keith Bogans.

Like everyone they simply speculate based upon what they saw in College.

I believe that scramm is referring to the open spot that we have had at SG since Fin left.
It would be great if Wright could fill the starting role next season.

Is he a slasher...does he get to the rim?
Possibly let him play SF and move Howard to the SG.

Wright may just be almost as important as Kidd is in this trade considering this guy is a shut down defender. We may have lost Harris but we gained the Wright guy!

Hey, Nets fan here...

Antione Wright...ah, whatta guy

On defense, he can hang with some of the best in the league. I've seen this kid frustrate Carmelo Anthony almost to the point of violence

On offense...well...if you've never seen a grown man pee on himself in fear on a basketball court, you soon will!

We don't need him to score to that many baskets, but we do need good defenders. So good addition to the squad I think.

hey, thanks for Trenton Hassel. That guy has done more in one game for the Nets than Antione has done in 2 seasons.

^That's because he wasn't used right. The kid has talent. he came out after his sophomore year and too early. If he has an assistant spend a lot of time with him to help him get things together on offense, he could become the Mavs' best backdoor cutter.
