Nets Waive Magloire

The New Jersey Nets have requested waivers on center Jamaal Magloire, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today.

Magloire, who signed with the Nets on July 17, 2007, played in 24 games this season, averaging 1.8 points and 3.4 rebounds. The eight-year pro holds career averages of 8.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in 530 NBA games.

Is this the solid back-up that we have desperately been looking for? Is it possible for us to sign him? What do you all think? I think he would be excellent as a backup to Damp. Anyone know what his deal was with New Jersey...? disgruntled with team, in the doghouse...etc....

I'd love him. He's sucked this season but last year he averaged about 6 and 6 in 21 minutes a game. I'm sure he can still be a useful player in the right situation.

I doubt anyone will claim him off waivers because he has a $4 million contract, but we could use part of the MLE on him.

This guy is a cancer, Josh Boone played over him, i would rather wait and see what else becomes available.

Who else is there out there though dude? Justin Williams, Birdman, Dale Davis, Kevin Willis lol, not many big men out there.

We've got 2 roster spots open so we could sign them both. I wouldn't mind just cutting Juwan anyway though!

I wouldn't try Magloire if i were you , esspecialy if you need defense against the bigs in the west .

He's just bad and to make matters worse he wasn't fitting with Kidd .

Oh god yes. His numbers do not impress but he is strong and has a bit of a mean streak. He can bang with the bigs of the West in limited roles. I would take him in a heartbeat.

Magliore is a good guy and he played the game right when he played for the Nets. The Nets really liked him but he did not fit what they were trying to do. Anytime he played Mark Jackson would rave about how he did all the little things you need to do to win. Also, Josh Boone and Sean Williams are very good and should get the playing time on a rebuilding team.

Boone is a solid rebounder, finishes well around the rim and is shaping into a tough defender.

Marc Jackson is not exactly Duncan or Amare or Bynum or Shaq. Mavs could sign him for the time being and keep a spot open for the next guy and pile more lux tax on the cap,

I am regretting this trade even tho I can wait until the end of the playoffs to determine its worth.

If the Mavs want a big man on their roster. It would be a good idea to grab Magloire up b4 another playoff team does.

I do believe he was RIGHT with the Mark with a K because MARK JACKSON the PG is a radio analyst for the Nets

When the Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey Nets were locked in what was a several-week discussion about how to get Jason Kidd in a Mavericks uniform it seemed like a no-brainer for Jamaal Magloire to be included in the deal. The former All-Star has never really played any meaningful role for the Nets after being a solid double-double guy for both Portland and Milwaukee. You can't help but wonder if . . .in the right situation . . .he might be a double-double guy again. But, alas, the only big man sent over from New Jersey was Malik Allen, who has never been close to being a double-double player.

When Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson were talking about their acquisition of Kidd they made it clear that they aren't finished dealing. They have a mid-level exception they can use on a free agent or two and they have two open roster spots. The first name that came to mind was PJ Brown, the free agent whose name has been linked to Dallas a number of times over the last six months. Now the Mavericks have a roster spot, playing time, a title shot and money to offer him. Unfortunately, the New Orleans Hornets have all of those things to offer, too, and PJ knows the Hornets better.

Which brings us to Magloire.

The Nets cut Magloire today and you can bet he won't be sitting around for long. In fact, it would be a surprise if he didn't wind up in Dallas.

The Mavericks are dangerously thin at the center position, with just the oft-injured Erick Dampier standing between them and a daunting Western Conference that now features Shaquille O'Neal in addition to Yao Ming, Tim Duncan, Amare Stoudemire, and Tyson Chandler. The Mavs will most certainly address this need in the next few days, and it seems there might be one more player from New Jersey escaping to the warmer climate of Dallas.

The Mavericks' big-man search will come to a conclusion soon.

Owner Mark Cuban said before Friday's game he expects to sign two big men to fill out the 15-man roster, which was left shy of inside players when center DeSagana Diop was included in the trade to New Jersey for Jason Kidd.

Some obvious names might be on the Mavericks' radar.

Jamaal Magloire was waived Friday by the Nets, and if he clears waivers he could be No. 1 on the Mavericks' list. The 6-11 center, in his eighth season, averaged 1.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 24 games for the Nets. However, as recently as 2005-06, he started all 82 games for Milwaukee and averaged 9.2 points and 9.5 rebounds.

Others on the watch list include Justin Williams (waived by Sacramento) and Viktor Khryapa (waived by Chicago). Cuban said the team is hoping not to have to dip into the Development League to find replacements.

Sign Magliore and Brent Barry (unless he has a Stack-like deal to go back to the Spurs).
