Yahoo Trade Grades - What are yours?

Post#1 » by catalyst » Fri Feb 22, 2008 10:27 pm

This is disheartening when your trade partner gets an A- and you get an incomplete. Here are some quotes

NEW JERSEY NETS

What they gave up: Jason Kidd, Malik Allen, Antoine Wright, Jason Collins.

What they got: Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager, Keith Van Horn, Stromile Swift, 2008 and 2010 first-round draft picks, $3 million.

Analysis: As soon Kidd quit on his teammates last month, the Nets had to move him. Considering everyone in the league knew that, they still received a nice package in return: a talented young player in Harris, expiring contracts and draft picks. Not bad.

Grade: A-.

DALLAS MAVERICKS

What they gave up: Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager, Keith Van Horn, 2008 and 2010 first-round draft picks, $3 million.

What they got: Jason Kidd, Malik Allen, Antoine Wright.

Analysis: The Mavericks went all-in, shortening their championship window by swapping Harris for Kidd. They also lost Diop, whose length had bothered Tim Duncan in the past. They did need Kidd

Typical. Is there ever a time where the media is actually supporting our squad? The man has barely had time to mesh with the team. We are going to be one of the most-talked about underdogs come late april.

I had not seen any other actual grades, and this just depressed me on the heels of the last game

A+ for the Mavs imo. We will win a championship with Kidd and that's worth anything

i cant see how our trade can be anything but incomplete for us, no one knows if it will work out for us, some see us being a legit contender while others think we're just middle of the pack. its a big risk what we did, just like what the suns did w/shaq, its a wait and see type of deal

New Jersey has one piece to build around and received many pieces that can become part of the future. I understand why New Jersey got the A.

Incomplete? Hmm, maybe it's being looked at because we are still trying to find some replacement depth. I'm hearing we will add two bigs this Monday, so that's refreshing, and hopefully it puts us even closer to the Championship.

On the other hand the trade left us thin to a certain extent and the media is going to look at that. It's not like we're a fan favorite of the media anyway.

Edit: By the way thanks catalyst for the article.

Mavs Grade: D

I will revise it to an F if they don't make the playoffs.

Funny that Nets fans keep saying that the Mavs may not make the playoffs.

I get the incentive for you guys in terms of the picks, but pretty bold statement to make for a team that you barely watch.

Us Mavs fans must be blind homers though, Kidd is surely the demise of this team.

The addition of Magliore will make this an A if we get another pickup that works with the remaining roster spot make it an A+. If we can EJ and add another A++.

I would add FAz and Justin Williams to Magliore so we can matchup with LA when they use Odom as a SF

I read that the Nets will try and sign Lebron in a few years. Good luck with that New Jersey. I see him going to New York. Or maybe to Dallas? [crosses fingers]

The west is so strong that a 50 win team may not make the playoffs. That is pretty scary for some coaches who have not had good luck lately in the playoffs.

I say an A so far, and it's early on. I remember all the doubters I had to argue with.
