Josh Howard...

... is starting to piss me off

Is he gonna jack of jump shot after jump shot whenever he touches the ball? Does he think that when we got Kidd, he can shoot those J's because of the "perfect set-up".

is the slasher JoHo dead? I'm starting to think that we should have dealt JoHo instead of Harris... at least the latter is relentless at driving and slashing to the basket...

looking at the memphis game, he's what, 8 for 25 ant still jacking shots? might as well give it to Dirk whos stroking it well and IS a real Jumpshooter.

Damn, Howard... :nonono: :nonono: :nonono:

edit: and this not only refers to tonite's game... this season as well in general, all I have seen is Josh the Jacker or Jumpshooter, or what not... I'm really disappointed with him right now
another edit: he finished the game 9-27... OMGZ 27 SHOTS!!! And about 90% of them are Jumpshots... looking at the boxscores, Terry 15 shots, and Dirk! only 9 shots :nonono: :nonono:
Don't be another Stack; Take it to the Rack!!!

Josh is the only Mav player I've seen in this game who gets the rebound and brings it up the court himself. Everyone else, even JET and Dirk, immediately looks for Jason Kidd. Josh, take a hint.

Josh is probably just so used to isos, that he doesn't know what to do. If he'd go back to moving without the ball like he did his first and second years in the league, he and Kidd would be great together, IMO.

Josh: 9-27 20 pts, ZERO FTs (almost 30 shot attempts!!!! WTF)
Dirk: 8-9 27 pts

Josh has stunk it up really bad. Tonight was even worse for me b/c he was FORCING EVERYTHING. Brick brick brick, PASS the damn ball.

So by playing it "safe", he jacks up 27 shots???

If theres any excuse, maybe he was told to find his rhythm, but still, terrible shot selection.

All he needs to do is drive the ball to the rim and let his game progress inside to out. He needs to get his stroke back...

Uhmmm, NO. Even before the injury, it was evident he was settling more and more for the outside shot. Some good comparison I heard before was Finley.

Except Howard is a lot cheaper than Finley!

He is doing something to get fouled and get to the line. He is averaging the most FT made and FTs taken in his career. I hate that he thinks he is a jumpshooter. The slasher and nasty streak player was much more fun to cheer for.

They say that passing and aggressive play are contageous. I think the same is true when it comes to jump shooting since Dirk came to this team.

I'm hoping that Kidd becomes our #1 guy and changes all of that. We need 2 good jump shooters and 2 good slashers/guys who love to play above the rim.

If Howard thinks that he will be one of our good jump shooters, we have no need for him on the team (I have the same thoughts about Stack). Dirk and Terry are the ones to fill that role. IMO, Howard needs to revert back to that hussle/slasher player to be a good fit on this team. If he doesn't do it the rest of the season and in the playoffs, the Mavs need to find a way to trade him for Marion in the off season. Marion is a perfect fit for what we need with Kidd, Dirk and Terry.

I'd still love to see us trade for Marion anyway and acquire one of the following for our SG:
Maggette, Richardson, VC, Davis, or someone that fits that mould.

Josh is great when he hustles, rebounds, defends, and slashes.

When he used to see himself as the glue guy instead of an "allstar," he was a versatile and at times, dominant player.

Now that he is becoming Finley 2.0 with all his jumpshots and half-hearted attempts at defense

I REALLY REALLY hope he gets his head on right and becomes the slasher that we need. I know he likes his outside shot, but truth of the matter is, he isn't a pure shooter like Dirk or Jet!!!!

Hopefully he gets 100% healthy and motivated and gets over DHarris leaving.

I see a little immaturity coming back from Josh now. He looked like the old short-tempered Josh Howard from a couple of seasons ago in the game against Memphis. Brian Cardinal got in his head, IMO (though a horrible shooting night didn't help either). Regardless, it's a bit of a concern. Hopefully, it's short-term frustration.

Either way, other posters are correct: Josh has to get back to being the glue guy and take a hint from the way Marion played with Nash. He has to realize he doesn't have to work as hard offensively to do the same amount of scoring. He needs to let Kidd do the work and just knock down the open shots, cut to the basket, and run with him.

To Josh's credit, though, I did see him make some fairly good passes against Memphis. He looked to pass more in that game than I've seen in awhile, despite his horrible "chucker" numbers.
