The Daily News -
The Clippers are leaning towards buying out the contract of point guard Sam Cassell, according to the Daily News in Los Angeles.

The organization realizes that Cassell's heart is no longer in L.A. and there seems to be no reason to keep him around with the Clippers nearly eliminated from the playoff hunt.

Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy told the News, "You have between now and March 1 where you're going to see guys who could potentially get bought out of deals. Certain things can happen. We're looking at all of those potential situations, and looking for opportunities that could help us."

i think he would pe a PERFECT fit as a backup. Terry could concentrate on playing SG.

BUT, i doubt he would come to dallas since he probably will join the celtics which have a bigger chance at the title.
he would be behind kidd which is also a concern. he wants to play and don't be on the bench for 30 minutes a night
he would also be rondos backup in boston though.

would you like cassell in dallas?
is Dallas even an option for him?

I really like this idea. Cassell could keep the offense running smoothly while Kidd sits, and we could move Terry to the 2 full time keeping our scrubs on the bench.

I'd love to split the MLE between Cassell and Magloire. That's a very solid lineup.

Kidd - Cassell - Barea
Terry - Stackhouse - Wright
Howard - George - Jones
Dirk - Bass - Allen
Dampier - Magloire - Juwan

But like you mentioned, Cassell might not want a role as small as the one he'd have here. Cleveland and Boston could probably offer him a lot more playing time. Neither of them have the MLE left to offer like we do though.

Oh, and then cut Juwan or Malik and sign Justin Williams!

i've heard, although it's probably speculation, that cleveland is willing to offer cassell their starting job and if i remember correctly they also have a portion of their mle left and they can pay sam more than boston who seems to be the most interested in sam.

i think he and avery would clash though. they've played against each other and avery isn't much older than sam. i envision some serious authoratative issues between the two peer point guards.

I doubt AJ would ever waive Juwan Howard. Maybe Malik Allen is closer to the waiver wire. He's also an old guy who is pretty much unproven. At least, Juwan knows the Mavs system.

magloire could be signed for vet minimum or am i wrong?
which amount is the vet min. by the way?
because if we could sign mags with vet min. and offer cassell almoust our full MLE i think he would consider it since boston's mle is gone

vet min is on a scale based on years in the league.
Magliore has 7 year experience thus his minimum salary is set at $1,033,930 for one year.

of that DAL only incurs $770,610 and the NBA pays the rest.

Cassell is going to Boston if he's bought out, you can bet on that. He has even said that he would like to play here two weeks ago.

Since mavs are in old home week, why not go get former draftee Cato? He blows as much as any of these other big spares mentioned for the C role.

According to a Clippers source, the team will announce today that it is buying out the contract of the 38-year-old guard.

NBA sources indicated that the Celtics, Mavericks, and Nuggets all are prepared to make Cassell an offer once he clear waivers in 48 hours. All three teams have their biannual exceptions available to give to Cassell (a maximum of $1.83 million) while the Mavs have their full mid-level available ($5.356 million) and Denver has $2.356 of its mid-level. The Celtics have spent all of their mid-level.

Hopefully we don't use too much of the MLE on Magloire so we can get Cassell here. I'm so sick of seeing George as the "backup pg". Boston is probably the frontrunner though.

As for getting a new address before the trading deadline, Cassell said: "I haven't thought of that aspect. I don't know what they want to do."

Then, he considered Dallas as a landing spot and concluded: "It ain't a bad place to be. I'll put it that way."

It does not sound as if Cassell is seriously concidering Dallas, but it is believed that Dallas has made him an offer according to ESPN radio.

I would like to see him here and have Terry as strickly the 2 guard, but I'm not going to cry if he signs with Boston either.

Dallas can offer more money but I don't think Cassell is money chasing.

He wants a ring and to be back w/ KG. He'll be a Celtic.

Mags will be a great addition though.
