Yao Ming's season reportedly is over.

KRIV-TV in Houston and The Houston Chronicle are reporting that Yao has a stress fracture in his left foot and the Rockets are expected to announce he will have season-ending surgery later Tuesday.

That's one less big in the West. Still need Mags though.

Wow, sucks for Houston. They were playing great recently and now won't even make the playoffs.

Sucks for Houston. On the other hand I like Yao Ming and hate seeing his seasons cut short. It's time for Houston to think about other options and stop relying on Yao for a full season.

I posted this on the big man prediction thread as I did not think Yao deserved a thread on our board.

But definatly, this helps reduce the pain of losing Diop if we play them in the playoffs.

Still worried about the Nuggets, the Spurs, the Suns and the Lakers.

Well I strongly dislike Yao as a player and the Rockets. But this is horrible. Even though it makes it easier for the Mavs. But its always sad to see a season-ending injury.

Does Houston become a Magloire destination possibility now?

Gawd, I hope not. The Rockets need to crash ASAP anyway with Tracy "I can't get out of the first round" McGrady...

I don't think so. He has the opportunity to play backup getting decent minutes on a contender. Why would he sign with a team which just lost their backbone and is likely to even have difficulties making the playoffs. In addition to that the Rockets can't offer him more money than the Mavs can.

Good point. I think it does since they traded their Yao backup from last year (Juwan) and Mutumbo can't play more than 15 min.

Well, he would get more playing time in Houston, but you do bring up a point about having to fight to even make the playoffs. Maybe with Magloire's age, he realizes that a Damp/Mags center rotation would be more ideal.

I think this injury just decided which of the top 9 west teams ends up #9.

Very unfortunate for the Rockets. As an athletic trainer I never like seeing anyone get seriously injured. I know the Rockets' staff will do everything possible to get Yao healthy again.

Kinda makes losing Diop a little more palatable, too, as there's now one fewer team out there with a high-scoring big man.

Gotta feel bad for their team.

Never like to see a season-ending injury to anyone.

If I was Hallmark, I would agree, but look what happened with Amare in 2006.
