New Mavs Rotation

Kidd/Terry/Barea
Terry/Stack/Jones
Howard/George/Wright
Dirk/Bass/JuHoward
Damp/Mags/Allen

Who is out for the playoffs?

I say Jones, Wright, Allen.

Regular Playoff Rotation is

Dirk - 38
Damp - 25
Howard - 38
Terry - 35
Kidd - 35
Stack - 26
Bass - 18
George - 10
Mags - 15

That line up gets me going more than the post trade, pre Signing period.

I would say Jones, Juwan, and Wright will not make the playoff roster. I am anxious to see how "Big Cat" does in his Mavs debut tonight!

Doesn't matter. It's destined to vary from one game to the next depending on injuries, opponent, etc.

I think barea is needed in playoffs as a ballhandler.

We currently have 14 players. 13 can be on the playoff roster with 12 of those 13 able to play each night (the 12 players can vary). There is only one technical player that would be in street clothes the whole time (#14), that would be either Allen or Wright. I say it would be Allen because for some reason Avery has a man crush on Juwan and Juwan can backup both PF and C.

Agreed. Avery hates young players.

Is that the way it is set up now?

If that is the case, I expect to see a rotation of

Dampier (25 min) / Magloire (15 min) / Dirk (8 min)
Dirk (32 min) / Bass (16 min)
Howard (40 min) / Stack (4 min) / George (4 min)
Terry (25 min) / Stack (20) / Jones (3 min)
Kidd (40 min / Terry (5 min) / Barea (3 min)

Juwan only in emergency. George & Jones more min only in emergency. Allen & Wright no min at all.

None of that is at all accurate.

You have up to 15 on your total roster. You have 12 active, 3 inactive, each game. It is designated pregame. It can change from game to game.

If you think otherwise, you're way out of date.

That's what I thought it was, but I was not sure enough to post that.

I am talking playoffs, not regular season. You can have 13 players with the ability to play. The coach chooses which 12 of those 13 will play each night. The other players (players #14 and possibly #15) are not on the playoff roster at all. It gives some lee way, just not a whole bunch.

It used to be you brought 12 players on your playoff roster and they were locked from the point the season ended.

Regardless of when you are talking about, the rules are 12 active (+3 or less inactive), changeable from game to game including playoffs. (And this whole thread has been about the playoffs, dude, so why would we mention rules that aren't playoff rules? Good grief.)

You need to catch up to the current NBA rules before you come here "correcting" people when they had it right. You're several years out of date.

JES - those were the rules in 2006. We're in 2008!

Gump, I am talking playoffs and only playoffs. This rule started last postseason and to my knowledge will occur this postseason. It's a postseason only rule that was posted in a postseason thread...

Am I being confusing, because I am so confused man. Gump, if you say it's not true, than it's not true. I trust ya buddy. You've defused many a situation with your findings. So, I believe ya.

I'm just backing away from the crack pipe slowly...

Thx, I wasn't sure on that and was wondering myself. I though I heard 15 available players before for the POs, but I could not find anything that said that.

Like I said, I was only talking playoffs, not before...

Guys, the same rules now exist for BOTH regular season and playoffs. They changed to active-inactive (scrapping any need for "injury" claim or validation) in the 2005 CBA. After 2006 playoffs, they realized the stupidity of having two different formats (one regular season, one playoff) on a game-to-game basis, and just made it all the same.

Go back and look at playoff rosters last year, game to game, and you'll see it in action.

So all 15 can go into the post season and 12 can play per game. I thought that was how it was changed last year. As far as who will play I think Avery needs to see who plays the best in the next stretch to determine that and Wright was on the active 12 man roster last game so he may be nearing getting some audition PT. In what little Allen has played I can already tell he is better than Juwan and since he is bigger he may muscle his way into that position which if we play LA in the PO's we need to have more big bodies to match up. Just look at what we would play if Odom Bynum Gasol Kobe and Fisher came out on the court and you'll see what I'm telling you. What do we do play Dampier Magliore Dirk Howard and Kidd?

I don't know about that. I like:

Damp or mag vs. Bynum
Dirk vs. Gasol
Stack or bass vs. Odom
Josh vs. Kobe
Kidd vs. Fisher

I am so old that I am going back to the old rules.
