Mailman A Bull?
After losing twice in the NBA Finals to the Chicago Bulls, it now appears former Jazzman Karl Malone could become a temporary Bull -- a Red Bull, that is.
The Red Bull team of the Philippine Basketball Association is said to be actually negotiating to bring the "Mailman" in as its allowed import player for the PBA Fiesta Cup tournament that begins March 30, according to the Manila Bulletin. -- Deseret Morning News

This move is apparently not a publicity stunt because Tony Chua, Red Bull's representative said yesterday that negotiations are currently underway to lure Malone who retired as one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players.
According to Chua, they're waiting for Malone, whose wife is a Filipina, to decide until today. -- Manila Bulletin

Wow, they're actually serious about it. The style there is pretty physical so Malone should fit right in.

Karl Malone Link

Malone was not physical the last time we saw him play 4 years ago. He is 44. This has to be a stunt and only a stunt. IF he actually hurts his legacy by participating in this silliness, he will get hurt playing against players younger than his own children.

I think I read that Kareem Abdul Jabbar is available too?

I think Jordan can be had for the right price. Also, Reggie Miller has been working our. What about Bob Cousy?

No serious team is going to sign anyone over 40 who has been retired.

ROFL last time I saw Karl Malone he was limping up and down the court with the Lakers... It was pathetic and sad. And why would you want to go on a trainwreck like the Bulls anyway?

Hey, I'm from the Philippines and I really think the Mailman can do pretty well in our local league. Although he's old, I assure you, he'll still be taller, stronger and more skilled than any local player here.

And I think he can manage with playing against the other imports (think of it this way, the imports are playing here... coz they can't even get into D-league :D )

Wow, I starting to get excited over a NBA great play here!!! :D

It's Red Bull; a PBA team.

He'll fit right in considering that Art Long was probably the best import that league has had in 8 years probably more, and a 44 year-old Karl Malone is undoubtedly superior to him.

Mavs should sign him... it would right the wrong of not drafting him just like the Kidd trade righted the wrong of trading him.

Puke on Karl Malone, I've been saying it since the 1980's and I'm still saying it today!

Read the thread. The NBA is not an option, it's strictly for a PBA team. He gets paid a ton of money to play a 36-game schedule (only twice, sometimes once a week) without the hassle of back-to-backs or flying from city to city.

The style 'here' is as physical as a baseball game. Karl Malone would beat these guys even at age 50. Where'd you get that idea from?

The Philippine Basketball Association is trash. Pure garbage. The best players couldn't get a spot on the D-League and they're mostly foreign. Most signings are done illegally even.I have no idea why Karl Malone would want to play here. The game is mostly watched by maids and delivery truck drivers.

How much would he get paid anyway?
I know the pay for basketball players here is really, really small compared to NBA players. A rookie contract would probably be much worth higher than a superstar's of the PBA.

Well yeah Malone would kick their asses because he's probably the toughest hombre in NBA history, even at 44. That doesn't mean it's not "physical" there.

Oops, it's $20,000 a month, I thought it was 200k.

Still, that's huge all things considered (easy schedule being the top draw) and the fact that it's considerably larger than what he got paid as a Laker.

NBA Players = Protein Shake, Complex Supplements, Intense Workout Routine

PBA Players = Balut, Hopia, Texting as their workout

Kareem could still give you 10 points a game in the post, easy. He can shoot that sky hook over anyone in the lague. I've seen him drill it over Bynum (7'6 wingspan).
