O/T: Deron Williams is a badass

Post#1 » by SaintofKillers » Tue Mar 4, 2008 3:56 am

Ever since last season I've had him pegged as the best young PG and I've even more impressed watching him today. That dribble move where he throws a series of stops and hesitations to create space then pulling up for the j is SICK.

And sadly he's still under the radar of the infallible CHRIS PAUL. The world will once again see his greatness come playoff time, while Chris Paul is watching DW in the semis from his home. I do think that Deron Williams will be labeled the best PG in the NBA eventually.

the thing williams has over paul is his size and is much more physical

they're both outstanding pg's and id take either one of them, this year however paul has done more with less and i think has had less to work with then williams

I wish a Jazz fan reading this would post a gif of Deron clutching the ball, slowly faces the camera and gives a poo-eating grin. That pretty much summed up the game earlier.

lol I love the arguement than CP3 has done the most with less... Morris Peterson was one of the most solid defense SGs and in youtube you can see clutch shot after clutch shot. Peja Stojakovic... your kidding? 3pt monster and one of the best shooters at it ALL-TIME. David West was definetly less, but he has come long ways since last years dissapointing season. Chandler has always been terrific. The bench had Bobby Jackson for a very long time. Jannero Pargo has always been a solid backup PG and got a lot of playing time last year.

And then Chris Paul, let's be serious, the guy is for real and he has been playing like the MVP this year.

But Deron Williams has had to work with 8 second round draft picks on the lineup.

At the beginning of the season, the Jazz were ranked 2nd youngest team in the NBA tied with Seattle Supersonics. Since the trades and waivemania, the Jazz dropped 5th youngest. The Hornets are somewhere in the middle.

CJ Miles 34th (Played tonight)
Kyrylo Fesenko 38th (In D-league)
Carlos Boozer 35th (Played tonight)
Mehmet Okur 38th (Played tonight)
Paul Millsap 47th (Played tonight)
Jason Hart 49th (Played tonight)
Kyle Korver 51st (Played tonight)
Jarron Collins 53rd (DNP - Coach Decision)
Ronnie Price Undrafted (Played tonight)

If you look at Boozer's stats, they have wildly increased since Deron Williams took the reigns from Keith McCloud last year. Also Deron Williams made Okur an All-Star last year. So I am really tired of the arguement that one does more with less. There is no team in the NBA that has so many 2nd round draft picks.

Plus, not even Stockton or Magic had two consecutive 19+ AST per game. Give the man some credit.

btw... I hope Kidd has his 100th Triple double over in Dallas. I am really eager for him to get to that mark.

CP3 is awesome, but come on he has a terrific players around him. NO hardly missed a beat when he has was injured earlier. The fact is that Cp3 is a great PG and has been playing at an unbelievable level this year but fact is also that when he is matched up with physical PGs like Deron, Billups, etc. that he is much much less effective. CP3 may be the best PG this year but it is just that Deron is the better PG when they play against eachother. That seals the case for us Jazz fans.

Deron is definitely getting better. He's learning to dominate. He doesn't have it quite down yet, but, you can see it coming.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Its pretty misleading to refer to guys like Boozer and Okur as merely second rounders. Both of these guys valued infinitely higher than your typical second round pick. Korver and Milsap are also exceptional second round picks. You also cant argue that Deron made these players who they are today because Boozer, Okur, and Korver all enjoyed success before they ever put on a Jazz uniform. The amount of second rounders on the Jazz roster is not really an indication of the talent that Deron has had to work with. Instead, it is really just a coincidence that many key pickups the Jazz have made from other teams happened to be second rounders.

I seriously thought that Williams and Paul both should have been all-stars over names like Iverson and Nash. But then again, the ones I think should make the all-star usually don't until the year after (sometimes 2).

I also thought Ginobili deserved to be in over Roy, but Barkley's lobbying put Roy in.

Iverson was a starter with Kobe; Nash was a reserve. But you're right about Portland. Besides, how could I complain when Roy appeared to be the best western player in that game. I think Aldridge is on the cusp of being an all-star also. Maybe 2010.

In think if Kobe decided to sit it out due to his finger, Manu would have been put in.
