He should get a servible 2-string center quick
We're not able to keep pace with elite teams like SAS and LAL. And Damp gets 6 PFs in both game. He's fairly effective on the floor.
But he's asked to handle TD or Gasol. At the same time, he should put his hand on the face of TP, Gino, Kobe, and so forth. We need a 2-string center to keep opponent honest.
Jamaal Magloire is not the answer in this category. He's nothing more than insurance, a really bad insurance. Let's have a big who can defense and rebound while Damp's out.

I wish we had picked up Justin Williams. Magloire did look pretty bad last night.
Definitely Juwan. EJ's expiring could come in handy next year, assuming he's not an idiot and doesn't opt out of $2 million.

You cut EJ or Juwan and sign one. Juwan doesn't make the playoff roster in a single game.

If traded after the Finals and before June 30th (like the Juwan Howard - Mike James trade on June 13th) all trades are based off of this years contracts and can be an instant savings for some teams as he would opt out and not cost that team any money.mavfan33 wrote:Definitely Juwan. That being said, I would love a 3-way trrade like this:
Dallas gets Carter
NJ gets player X & Eddie Jones
3rd team gets Jason Terry
Then use Howard & Stack for Marion
Dampier
Nowitzki/Bass
Marion
Carter
Kidd
And fill in the rest of the roster like Boston did this year (players willing to settle for less with the MLE & vet mins to play with that group)

with all the small ball Avery plays anyways whats the use? Actually I agree, Williams looked better, but hopefully Magloire will be more in tune and in shape by the POs (that's a BIG hope), we could use 10-15 useful minutes from him and Allen. Last night, Allen did well with his 9 rebounds but can't count on that. Just like we can't count on Dampier to show up every night.

We are thinking alike here. However, Gump says they don't get along which is something that I didn't know.
May not be a move that works. However, I like the thought because Carter is a guy that we should be able to get fairly easy if we are willing to take on that contract.
If not Carter, how about Terry and Josh for Marion? Would Miami have any interest in Terry?

Damn that Juwan signing!
The Juwan signing made sense at the time because Bass was a huge question mark going into the season and we had no other options other than George.
However, I don't understand why Howard wasn't moved for a shot blocker at TDL. Now we have 5 PFs and only 2 centers, one of which is completely worthless at this point.
There is absolutely no need for Juwan on this team now. He gives us nothing.

Yeah, I didn't know they did not get along either, but I'm curious if that was personal or the environment they were in. Maybe Gump can enlighten us on the details.Teffer10 wrote:We are thinking alike here. However, Gump says they don't get along which is something that I didn't know.

I still would do Howard for Marion, but Terry and would be too much IMO. i don't think Marion is that much of an upgrade.
Going away from Marion, I would also like a Terry (or Stack) + Bass for Maggette trade if the Clippers are lookign to replace Brand.

Magloire will prove to be better than he's looked. Just wait. Allen is another center. Dirk can play a little 5 spot. So can Bass.
Mavs aren't desperate for a backup center, but they could definitely use one. Right now Avery is just trying to get the guys use to Jason.

I"m wondering if it has to do with the environment as well. In NJ, they were considered the #1 and #2 guys. Having Dirk and Marion for teammates, as well as a pretty solid center, might change their attitudes toward one another.
The reason why I like Carter is because he can score in many different ways. If we need someone to go the go to the basket, he will do that. After watching Kobe and TMac take it to us in the lane, it is obvious that we don't have a guy like that on this team and Carter would fit that role.
Carter sort of reminds me of Stack when we first made the trade for him. Carter still has the ability to make things happen where Stack seems to show signs of becoming washed up.
I'm not sure that I would want to give up that much for Maggette. We'd have to get another player anyway to make salaries work.
Maggette and TT might work salary wise.

The big trade is looking better for us every game. Allen and Wright are both pleasant surprises. There is something about Mags (and yes he was part of the trade) that intrigues me because I think he just needs to get into good shape to give us something we desperately need (a guy with some size and good hands that can play down low with his back to the basket).
I'm just a little puzzled and concerned why the Mavs didn't move Juwan for some insurance at the center spot (either cut him to open a spot or trade him for a shot blocker at the end of someone's bench). I still would have done a Juwan for Booth straight up deal just for some insurance.
