offseason answer at two guard?

Post#1 » by thaAteam » Mon Mar 17, 2008 10:51 pm

I think stack is two old to fill that role and i like antoine right but if he isnt resigned and reyshawn terry stays overseas i think one of three players wouldbe on the mavs radar and can be had for the mle?

maurice evans from orlando
great slasher and finisher, solid defender, decent shooter all around solid game

jr smith from denver
lights out shooter great finisher, good ball handler, decent defender, bad decision maker

mickael pietrius
excellent defender and ball handler, great finisher, decent shot but nice looking shot

I think pietrius would be the perfect fit here, can play a few positions and could be had cheap

I think Evans would be one of those players that play better with Kidd, but is he worth the MLE?

I know it's just a pipe dream, but I am hoping that either Maggette or Artest will be in the mindset to settle for MLE with a contender than to play for a non-contender with more money.

I seriously want Maggette over here, since hes one of my favorite players outside of Dallas and would be a great fit next to Kidd. To think we could have landed him last offseason just for Terry...... Anyways I highly doubt it will happen since he will probably be going to a team thats offering big bucks for him. :(

Maggette would be my 1st choice too. I think the odds are pretty slim we're able to get him though. He'll probably go in some sign and trade, and we don't have much to offer.

I like the Pietrus idea. He's a great athlete and can play solid defense. Maybe Avery could help him develop.

Why go for Pietrus -- who's going to be expensive -- when we could just re-sign Wright? They're pretty much the same player the only difference is Wright has a brain and has shown signs of improvement in one year than Pietrus has for his entire career.

Besides, none of the players you mentioned are "answers" they're just band-aids. Unless you're getting a Maggette or a Davis or an Artest, you're better off with Adrian Griffin who has yet to be supplanted as the best SG we've had to man that spot since *cough* Finley.

I forgot that he doesn't fit the "scrub" qualifications that your suggestions entail, I apologize profusely.

I hope the Mavs re-sign Wright, and I wouldnt mind at all if they tried to complete a sign and trade for a player like Arenas at SG, but I dont expect that to happen. Since this is the Mavericks we are talking about, the truth will be that we will read about all these free agents that consider Dallas and sign somewhere else and we will start Terry next season.

I like Wright as well and hope he succeeds as at least a replacement for Jones and/or George. Starting material would be great as well.

I'm afraid that we are stuck with Terry at the SG position. However, I think Lue gives us everything that we wanted from Terry as a backup PG at a much cheaper price.

If we could somehow get rid of Terry but get Maggette or Mike Miller I would be happy as hell.

I agree with Maggette but would also consider Miller and VC.

I know most people don't like the price tag on VC, but he is someone who is achievable and would upgrade that position for us.
VC is exactly what we need because he has the power and ability to get to the basket very aggressively and is also able to score from nearly anywhere on the court.

If we could get him for George S&T and Stack that would be a huge upgrade.

Someone mentioned that VC and Kidd don't get along too well so that would certainly be a factor.

I would then love to see the Mavs deal Howard and Terry for Marion to have a team like this:

Kidd/Lue/Barea
VC/Wright/Jones
Marion/Bass/R. Terry
Dirk/Allen
Damp/ MLE guy

^^^ IDK man VC really doesn't attack the rim as much like before, but he definitely is an upgrade over anything we have at the 2 though.

What about him?

Image

He's available since the Muppet Show's been cancelled. He could really help with some of that home cookin' Bob Ortegal is always talkin' about...

If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

How about Posey? He's big, can shoot the three, and defend three positions. Still a band aid, but I'd take him over the scrubs the OP's been peddling.

Posey ...
a. is the same sort of player you already have here, and hate (you only like him because of the "grass over the fence" syndrome); and
b. won't be a free agent anyhow

Magette so we can have a double magnum attack with Jamal Magliore and the cross over from people thinking we added 2 Scottish players would be huge.

i would love to see maggette or artest in dallas, but with maggette i think we will just run stupid isos for him.
pietrus is a good option, athletic, would benefit from kidd, good outside shot, good defender

"Stupid isos"? If you have a mismatch, that's a great play not a bad one.

The difference between a Maggette iso and anyone else on our team in an iso is that Maggette can drive the ball to the basket.

Maggette is limited but I doubt he ever will be available. Sterling likes him too much...

Maggette should be available. Al Thornton has shown too much his rookie year to not be starting next year at SF and with Brand coming back from injury, I would not be surprised to see the Clippers looking to S&T Maggette or just let him walk in free agency. If Jason Terry didnt make so much money for such a long time period, a perfect deal would be Terry for Maggette straight up, but I dont know if Sterling would take on Terry's contract.
