Next good win?

Post#1 » by Rand10 » Fri Mar 21, 2008 8:34 pm

When will we beat an above .500 team again? Here's the remaining schedule:

San Antonio
LA Clippers
@ Denver
@ Golden State

@ LA Clippers
Golden State
@ LA Lakers
@ Phoenix

Seattle
Utah
@ Portland

@ Seattle
New Orleans

I'm not expecting to beat the Spurs, but I think we can beat Denver. If not, we may really be in danger of not making the playoffs since they are only 3 behind us in the loss column. The 2 Warriors games are going to be pretty important too. If they beat Houston tonight they'll only be a half game behind us.

I dont even know anymore. Hopefully San Antonio, but I am looking at that game expecting nothing. Denver is probably more likely (if you call that a good win)

May not be concidered "good", but a win against Denver puts us one more game in front of them and on our way to clinching a playoff spot. Also, since we play them only 3 times, the winner of this game has the tie-breakers, so in essance, a win is like a 2 game swing.

I really hope we win both games against Golden State. At some point this team needs to win for themselves, but from our point of view, we need to be confident we can get out of the first round.

Love the sig, just not the streaky shooting... I am a JET fan though.
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

And winning a game or two against the 8th seed is going to give us that confidence?

Depends on how you look at things. Considering Golden State knocked us out of the first round, yes, I do believe it would provide us with some confidence. Knocking us out of the first round is saying it nicely since they have been able to dominate us for sometime now. I'm assuming our players still think about the past and those games will continued to be over hyped.

When I looked at the upcoming games the GS game was the one that stood out the most. For some reason the Spurs don't bother me much since they've struggled some themselves.

Both Portland and New Orleans worry me and are difficult games to play to close out the season.

I guess that's a 8th and a current 10th seed that worry me. I didn't realize that was such a big deal.

I'm going to look at this upcoming schedule as only a possitive thing for the Mavs.

It will either be an excellent opportunity for them to build confidence and momentum going into the POs (like SA did last season), or it will be an opportunity for the Mavs to keep the draft pick that would otherwise go to NJ.

If we had a weak schedule from here on out and we virtually backed into the POs, then I would be concerned as hell.
If this team has the talent (which I still question), they should get their attitudes straight and take out the majority of the teams on the schedule. If not, there is some serious restructuring to do next season if we go out in the first round or don't even make the POs.

to me the biggest and most telling game remaining is the last game of the season with new orleans. Avery should have learned by then how to use the talent on this team. If we loose that one we will not get out of the first round. If we win, we should be on a roll.
My money is the mavs beat the spurs this Sunday. The key is how Avery uses his center position.

I think that will depend on the circumstances. In other words, if that game becomes meaningless to NO and they are resting players, a win for us won't matter much in terms of gaining any confidence or building any kind of momentum. If we are going to build momentum, it should begin on Sunday for us to have any chance imo.

The SA game on Sunday willl be the most important imo. If we don't win that game, I'm sort of hoping that we don't make the POs. I'd rather have the lotto pick than go in as an 8th seed.

^I think the West is and will remain close enough that every team is going to have to fight until the last game to secure their spots. Right now the Hornets and Lakers are seperated by one game and its been that way for a couple weeks. The rest of the teams are very close too, 1-2 games back, then us. Everyone will be going hard.

I just think beating GS once isnt going to allow them to forget about losing to every other team over .500, at least to this point. We would need to be on a nice winning streak or beat a couple of top dogs to do so.
