2008 Draft Pick - Lottery Protected
Is the 2008 draft pick that Dallas traded to N.J. in the Kidd deal lottery protected ?

Does that mean that the Nets would get the next available 1st round pick of ours or do they simply lose out on that draft pick? I have to assume they'd get next years or whenever the rules stipulate they can get it. Basically, we traded them two 1st Round picks, are they eventually getting those no matter what, however many years it takes, or did they lose one of them if we don't make the playoffs?

they dont lose it, there are certain restrictions and the restrictions go down each year, say this year its lottery protected and next year its top 10 protected followed by top 5 then top 3 then unprotected.
like when the pistons drafted darko that was from a trade like 5 years before w/the grizzlies, but the restrictions got so small where the pistons got the pick from the grizz no matter where they were
same with the hawks and suns this year if the hawks win the lottery the suns get the #1 pick
