I move to bring back Pops Mensah-Bonsu

Still remembering the defense on Yi. Taller, more athletic players cannot be guarded by JoHo because of their hieght & length bor Bass due to their agility and length.
This whole notion was sparked by Kevin Durant, Lamarcus Aldridge, Canning Frye, Andris Bietrins, and Brandon Wright. All are players we played in April and have played better against us than they do against everyone else (well, except LA who has played good against everyone).
Not saying he will stop them all the time, but lord, we need something other than Josh trying to defend these players he can't defend.
Plus, I think Pops + Kidd =

So what do you think? I'd not resign Juwan or Allen to bring him back.

With Avery as coach, Pops would be about as useful as Antoine Wright.

Wright vs. Pops in a cage match for the #21...
Sounds good to me...

I suggested that after the Kidd trade and before we signed Magloire.
Pops would fill the role that Magloire has now with Avery as the coach.
I do agree with you though...Pops would fit well with Kidd and gives us some much needed athleticism in our front court.

Uh, no. Actually, I believe that Cuban has his mind made up, Avery gives token input, and Donnie isn't asked squat.

This is the same team that let go of Fazekas for Juwan Howard.
This is the same coach who would rather play George and Eddie Jones 20+ minutes than given Wright any burn. The same coach who will let George, EJ, any "vet" brick shots, cause TOs etc etc, and immediately pull Wright for making a mistake.
Avery, Stackhouse and Terry share a bed
BTW, I liked Pops.

That is just ignorant.

How is that ignorant? Its common knowledge that Avery prefers vets over young players, with the exception of Bass. He's always babbling about the veteranly presence and knowledge of the old spares we've accumulated and signed fat contracts to over the years (ok maybe not spares)

Bass must have something on Avery. There is no other reason he would willingly play someone so young and so inexpensive!

What is also common knowledge is the Mavs waived Mbenga for Juwan Howard, not Fazekas. Fazekas was waived for the signing of KVH.
What's ignorant is you constantly bring up Wright's playing time when compared to George and Jones. Clearly, George is a better defender, team defender and understands the game better. I am not a fan of Jones but, obviously since he has returned from injury our team has been better. Wright just looks lost some times, he does some things well, but by no means is he better than a proven veteran.
This is what plagued Pops during his tenure with the Mavs. Slow to catch on with defensive schemes and offensive sets. Pops is a little undersized to play the 4 and not quick enough to guard the 3. But he can finish around the basket...

Pops is quick enough to play the 3. His problem was his free throws and shots beyond 2 feet.

thank you for pointing that out, its annoying reading all the hate jones and george get on here (particularly george) when they're superior players at this point

I believe avery had a teammate that played that way, but crazier. Dennis Rodman redux, anyone.

Show me where I "constantly" bring up Wright's PT besides this thread, where else have I complained about this?? my whole point is that even if we sign someone like Pops, no way will they ever be given a chance besides garbage time a la Wright. Some coaches play their younger players when their "proven vets" suck some nights, some don't. And Avery is the latter.

I wonder what he's doing these days...
No, I don't.

i dunno guys, i have to think that if someone is not on an NBA roster, theres usually a reason why. I think if Pops were originally on another team and then dropped, we'd see him as a scrub, but because he was here a bit, some may think too highly of him. Fans have a tendency to think too highly of their guys. Remember how pissed everyone was that Rayshawn Terry didnt make the team? Does anyone REALLY think he could have contributed, whether Avery let him or not?

I think Reyshawn Terry, Nick Fazekas, DJ Mbenga, Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Antoine Wright all could have been better this year than Ager could do EVER.
And yes, RT could have done something if it was not Avery as coach. If Avery let him, then the answer to your question "whether Avery let him or not" is yes.
Also, I never said Pops should be starting or anything like that, but he could be somewhere btwn scrub and role player. Obviously if the SF is Anthony, PF Martin and C Camby, Pops should see ZERO playing time in lieu of Bass, but if it is Aldridge, Frye, Durant, Yi, B. Wright or Biedrins, then I can see Josh Howard at the 2 guard next to Kidd because Josh Howard (along with anyone else on our roster) cannot guard those guys one on one. If nothing else, he is 6 fouls and can cause them problems. At best, we have a defensive stopper, great rebounder, good shot blocker and momentum changing dunker finishing for Kidd. Maybe Kidd even gets a triple-double.

19 MPG
8.8 PPG (42.3% FG, 31.9% 3pt, 84.0% FT)
4.5 RPG
0.7 BPG
0.7 APG
1.4 SPG
I don't think that is bad at all for
only 19 min.
