Need for Sheed

2. The best pick-and-roll defending big man in the league.
3. Lethal low post scorer that can also stretch the defense with his outside shooting.
4. Brings toughness.

What would it take to get him?

you'd start with bass and whoever else they want, then you'd have to find out how to match salaries

i wanted him last year or the past couple years but its probably near impossible, not sure if we're a good match when it comes to trades. if the pistons were sorta ready to start rebuilding they've got a great start w/amir johnson, rodney stuckey, jason maxiell and aaron aflallo

but im not even sure if they'd want bass b/c johnson and maxiell are undersized pf's too.

Easy: Sheed plays the 5.

But as I've always said - you can get away with playing Dirk at SF as long as you have Damp and Sheed clogging the middle. Dirk's not that bad at keeping smaller quicker guys in front of him; his problem is closing out against a small 4 and having Damp as the only line of defense.

Detroit isnt gong to trade Rasheed anytime soon. It would take Howard, Bass, and probably Stack... It would be worth it for Dallas though

I seriously doubt Detroit trades Rasheed. I view him as the glue to the Pistons success because without him the team won't be as effective and I don't see any Mavericks that can provide Detroit with the same impact.

However, his name has been mentioned on this forum for years, and he's a pieces to the puzzle that would move us into the right direction. He'd probably fill many of our needs but it comes down to not having what Detroit would want.

Even if we bomb out of the playoffs and blow up the team I don't see anything I would want for Sheed that Dallas could offer. If you still had Harris...

6 blocks so far tonight for Sheed BTW.

EDIT: make that 7 blocks.... so far. Sheed had 7 in the 1st half of game 1 as well.

Putting two big men with the perimeter skills of Dirk and Sheed in a front court would be pretty amazing.

They would cause so many matchup problems.

Plus, Sheed guards PFs as well as anyone in the game.

That said, I agree I would its hard to make a trade work.

If Dallas had a young C prospect, big expiring contract, and lotto pick I think that could be the package to get it done.

agreed... dallas doesnt have the right pieces for a deal to be done...

howard, stack and bass might make detroit take notice, but i dont think it would be enough for them to agree...

if dallas were to offer that package in the market, then i'd try to offer the same one to indy for jermaine oneal....

Piston fan here. The Pistons have been competitive over the last several years. What makes you think that they would trade the very piece that has made them a success for the last four seasons? Unless the deal includes a top tier player Sheed aint going anywhere! Look for Joe Dumars to offer him an extension during the next season or even during the summer as he will be entering the final year of his contract.

Sorry your team lost but you can blame that on the Kidd trade which I HATED to the n'th degree. But, million dollar babies seem to always get what they want and that often ruin it for others.

I think that would be pretty disasterous. Both of those players can play inside but refuse to. I would not want to see them on the same team.

If Wallace was coming over, it would have to be Dirk & Stack for Sheed and Hamilton or something like that. However, I don't see Kidd and Sheed being too sucessful.

Sheed to Dallas ain't happening.

reading from the piston's fans sentiments on their board when they lost another ECF series, they were inclined to trading sheed and his expiring.. and to some extent, some fans were willing to part with tayshaun prince as well... sheed has lost some of his defensive abilities as age catches up to anybody.. im not sure if he'd be the right fit beside dirk, but if it wouldnt cost us much, then im all for it..

I was thinking of a possible Dirk for Sheed, Stuckey, and Maxiell deal.

Dirk could put that team over the top and the Mavs would have a sizeable expiring and 2 young prospects. Then trade Howard and Terry for Marion.

The Mavs would clear over 50Mil after this season which would put us 20mil+ under the cap.
Stuckey, Maxiell, Bass, Wright, R. Terry, an 09 lotto draft pick, and one or two young FAs would be a pretty solid foundation to start rebuilding in the 09 season.

Also, the trio of Kidd/Marion/Sheed would make us fairly competitive next season (which would only hurt our 09 draft pick though).

^^ putting dirk on any eastern contender would put them over the top.. add dirk to detroit with them retaining billups, hamilton and prince and you've got a pretty scary team...

I don't see a need for 2 undersized PFs in Bass & Maxiell

Also, if we are rebuilding and trying to get cap space, then I would trade dirk for better young peices. I'd rather have a large pure expiring (like Lafrentz) and a top 2 pick or great young talent than Sheed and some players that will be starters , but nothing spectacular.

Once again, Sheed to Dallas ain't happening. Just no way! Same with Jermaine O'neal.
