Would you rebuild?

Alright so minutes after we're eliminated and your time to overreact and maybe go overboard, i leave you with the question should we rebuild now?

My problem with rebuilding is that we have that unprotected 1st in 2010 and if we were to rebuild that'd be a great pick (that we'd miss out on). thats the only thing keeping me from rebuilding, but this is probably when we could get the best value for dirk. i love that guy to much to just let his prime years go to waste.

Retool with contracts no longer than 2 years.

Only after we get our picks should we suck. Til then, I'd rather be mediocure.

partly agree with JES....

i wouldnt rebuild now or even next season... we should see what we could get for howard, stack and maybe even EJ.... im gonna have to keep terry as he played well and did everything we asked him to. (unless we get a better SG of course)

im gonna put the rebuilding process sometime in 2011... that's when dirk, kidd, howard and dampier all expire... that where the rebuilding starts...

We need to rebuild the bench with the talent we once had. I don't see even see much value on our bench or players that hold much value. At this point, if we don't fill our needs this team will only decline, and most likely won't even make the playoffs next season.

Like JES12 said about the contracts. I truly feel we need to stay away from giving the veterans long contracts during the future. We are now stuck with a couple guys that won't even be able to help us next season.

I dont know what we can do to rebuild this thing but I dont think I have the stomach to watch Dirk play for another team. I refuse to believe we will be another Minnesota. But as far as everyone else goes I dont care, I dont want to just give them away for just crap but no one is untouchable in my opinion.

that somethinig i would look into if i were cuban...

we still own the 2009 pick, right? NJ only gets this years and 2010, if i remember correctly...

i know its a gamble... a huge one at that.. but if we dont make the playoffs next year, we get into the lottery, pick someone we need who could fill holes, and bounce back to contention again in 2010 making the NJ pick in the 20's....

Trade Josh, Stack (if you can, if not buy him out)

Fire Avery

Release/Don't resign Juwan, Eddie (use him as trade filler if you can).

Buy a couple picks from teams that have extra (Portland) and draft a PG

Blow it up maybe we get a lottery pick next year then come back re-tooled the year after.

Your right about the picks.

As far as the lottery goes, the first thing that come to mind is the New York Knicks due to the team salary, and I would hate for us to follow their footsteps. I think we have suffered enough!

i'd try to trade Kidd if possible to a team that would want a veteran leader and won't have to depend on his scoring that much or will need a PG.

Say Baron wants out of GS and pretty much says he won't come back, he could be a candidate. Maybe Nellie would want to have Kidd for one year and at least get something for Davis and then get a huge cap relief.

Maybe the Wizards would do the same for Arenas if he decides that he will not come back at all.

Like i said, those are some far fetched scenerios and i'm just thinking off the top of my head.

Maybe Kidd to Clips for Maggette (if he wants to leave) and Livingston real real real cheap and or/ Knight.

I dont think Josh needs to be traded for the sake of trading. Same with Terry. Only if they give you upgrades. All old men scrubs need to be gone. I'd like to keep STack but only want him to be like the 9th man. His 6th man days are over.

Maybe the Suns will be looking to sell their Atlanta pick like they do every year? Get that and draft a PG that would be availbe in the mid-first, like DJ Augustine.

On the trade forum, a Clipper fan proposed Howard + Terry for Maggette, Mobley, 2008 pick (most likely #7) and 2010 pick.

While on the surface, that may not be too palatable, I like it cuz
1) We keep Dirk
2) We keep Bass
3) Mobley expires the same year as Dampier
4) We can combine that #7 pick with Stack's near expiring for Artest, Mike Miller or if we add a S&T George, we can get Redd or Carter.

Then we would look like:
Dampier
Dirk
Maggette
Artest/Miller/Carter/Redd
Kidd
6th man...Bass
7th man...Mobley

Of course our MLE would need to be used on depth, but our top 6 would look good.

Absolutely I'd rebuild. It's long overdue.

Re: the 2010 pick... I'm more concerned about our 2009 pick than 2010 (the latter of which is already gone). I'd like to get the most value from that pick, rather than retool, have the same fate as this season, and wind up with a 20-something pick that either (a) won't help us immediately or (b) won't REALLY help us in the long-term. In short, if I have to endure giving Jersey a lottery pick, I'd be happy to do that if it means the Mavs keep just ONE MORE lottery pick of our own.

Re: signing/acquiring players with short-term deals... I'm not sure how much we could actually improve with that strategy. Any player we trade will have a big contract, so taking a shorter contract AND getting better talent-wise is probably a long shot. A better fit, perhaps, but I don't think this FO knows what a good fit is. As for signing guys, short-term deals usually don't attract the best players, so I still don't think we'll improve much there.

I don't think this series defines Josh Howard's game in general, but I don't want a quitter on this team. He never put all it out on the floor and that much was obvious from the beginning. I think his time is done here.

Time to rebuild around Dirk and Bass. I would love a Howard trade for a high draft pick, or a sign and trade for Marion this summer

Cavs fan wondering what it would take to get Josh Howard.

LeBron needs a wingman and to be honest I have not followed the series enough to know how he played.

We have a decent amount of expirings, a first round pick, and some younger talent (ie Daniel Gibson, Sacha Pavlovic, and Anderson Varejao)

We value Gibson very highly so please take in consideration.....hes def not just a throw in player

Nah. I like Gibson a lot, but not as much as I hate Varejao and Pavlovic.

We should rebuild.

As far as Josh Howard, Dallas would probably want Szczerbiak's expiring contract (assuming we are rebuilding) and get Cleveland to take on Stackhouse or Dampier or Terry along with Howard. We'd also need some young talent, but CLE doesnt have alot of that unfortunately.

I don't see how we can rebuild.

We don't have any solid trading chips. Sure we have some, but are we gonna get back full value? Nope.

Kidd is going to be next to impossible to deal, and again, no way would we get Harris, Diop, and 2 picks for him. Nothing remotely close to that.

If Avery stays, we won't run, and anything else besides running + Kidd = waste of time.

For example, let's say by some miracle we get B. Davis for Terry and something else. Then we get Marion for Howard and something else.

Kidd, Davis, Marion, Dirk, and Bass/Dampier. Will it work? No, because Avery won't run the ball. Howard and Terry are at their best when running, but Avery don't give a crap. He wants defensive players who grind it out and work on getting to the foul line.

It's just absurd and ridiculous at the professional level for the players to adapt to the coach. Coaches should be smart enough to coach the talent they have. It doesn't take a genius to see that Dirk, Terry, Howard, Stackhouse, Kidd -- and even Bass -- all running the floor at a chaotic pace are easily twice as effective as slowing it down and all that crap.

I agree. We just don't have the pieces to rebuild. I think we should just get what we can for howard/stack and hope that somehow a gasol-like trade comes our way. We're really stuck with being a pretty-good team for a few years.
