JHo is leaving... What is the best deal for Mavs?

I knew that mavs is paying one of the most salary this year... but until i really saw the number this morning, i was shocked...

Mavericks Payroll: $104,986,812 Cap Room: $-49,356,812

it's the most among all nba teams, we are pretty screwed...

So we all know that mavs is looking forward to trading JHo, the question is

What is the best deal for Mavs? WHO???

Options are 1) getting player who matches salary
2) young talent + draft
3) clear salary cap
etc...

25 mil coming off this season as Finley's and Bradley's contracts are up. Still a lot but i agree Cuban wont sign-n-trade another KVH.

We're lucky if Cuban at least uses the MLE unlike last season (or did he for Juwan?).

Salaries are fixed up through 2010/11, Terry is the only one who has money guaranteed one more year. http://hoopshype.com/salaries/dallas.htm

I dont see it as a solution to clear salaries if we are still competing. Trade for expirings when you rebuild, otherwise hand out three year deals or trade for three year deals. Thats the last timemark for the rebuild.

Trade for a lottery pick is still the best the Mavs can get for Josh IMO. I think Marion would be incredible though

Depends...

Are we rebuilding? Short contract player and a lottery pick / good young player.

Trying to win? Upgrading our talent.

Bucks will give you Redd for Josh Howard and Stackhouse

This is a big case of selling low. I think he never recovered from losing devin. If mavs could get Marion, it would make then a better D team since all of the positions he can guard.

I think Marion and Artest could both help us compete and help us in the long run (if we decide to blow it up) as they only have 1-year deals left.

IMO, Marion needs to be the focal point, and would move us towards the right direction. He has so much energy and passion for the game. I'd feel much better about next season if Marion is our starting 3.

Marion would be my first choice as long as Kidd is not traded. Marion is a great player without the ball and gives us a versatile defender.

Howard and Stack would be a possibility and we could even add Wright (S&T) if needed.

Others:

Artest, JO, Maggette, Redd, Melo, G. Wallace, J. Richardson, M. Miller, and even Brand.

Jazz will give up AK, Brewer, Harpring, NYs 2010 unprotected lotto pic, or Miles in some sort of package for Howard. Not all of them just some type of combination. Thoughts? That NY pick could be a # 1 overall.

that doesnt sound to bad, id take ny's #1 and brewer brewer, it probably hurts us but i see brewer blossoming. he needs to take responsibility anyways he's been a passive player since college. if i could get those 2 and kirilenko for jho and whoever u wanted (aside from bass and dirk) id do that in a heartbeat

what makes u so sure the jazz would want to give nyk's #1 though?

You guys don't want Marion for a half court offense.

The point is that we don't want a half court oriented team. We need guys who can run and play without the ball. Marion is about the best there is that will be available in the offseason. Howard's game is a little to selfish imo which doesn't fit well with Kidd.

Mike Dunleavy for Josh Howard.

Dunleavy is one of the top-shooters in the league, and is a superior scorer, passer, and ball handler. He's also a pretty solid rebounder.

Terry for Dunleavy, ok. Not Howard. Dunleavy had an excellent season, but people still arent going to be kicking down the door to get him. He could be valuable but not for Howard.

Then hopefully with the arrival of Carlise, it means we are going in a different direction, a rebuilding mode. Just doesnt make sense to bring in Kidd, then bring in a head coach that goes totally opposite of Kidd's strength, does it?

I doubt Carlisle would've come here to coach a rebuilding team.

He tried spending the MLE on Brent Barry and he turned it down. Juwan was signed to vet min.

As far as salaries are concerned....you will be totally misinformed using that crack site known as hoopshype...

Shamsports is 50 times more accurate.

http://www.shamsports.com/content/pages ... ericks.jsp

And only 2 year deals are needed.

.........................2008-09................2009-10...............2010-11...............2011-12
Kidd...............$21,372,000.................................................................
Nowitzki.........$18,077,904.........$19,795,714...........ETO......................
Dampier.........$11,553,000.........$12,115,500.........not guaranteed........
Howard..........$10,445,000..........$11,390,000.........Team Option...........
Terry................$9,696,000...........$9,575,000........$10,373,000.....$11,158,000
Stackhouse......$7,000,000......2 mil guaranteed.....................................
Jones.............Player option..................................................................
Bass...................$826,269...................................................................

Players that can be signed without using the MLE...may or may not be be a Mav...ReyShawn Terry, Antoine Wright, Deveon George, Jose Juan Barea, 2nd round pick.

As you can see, there is not any advantage of trading for expirings without any other incentive unlees you are trading Terry.

Jones is an expiring if he opts in and does not count against the cap if he opts out.
Stack is is virtually an expiring...especially if Cuban adds 2 mil cash to the trade.

Edited thanks to Rand10.
