Why not create a mismatch by starting Dirk at SF and Bass at PF. This would create an avenue to trade Howard for a SG like Richardson or Miller or Maggette or S. Jackson or Artest...

This would maximize Bass' potential in a contract year for him and allow Dirk to roam freely...

Bass would be the SF defender on the defensive end, IMO. At least give it a shot.

Because Marion will be playing SF and Dirk will be at PF...

i'd be down as long as carlisle isn't like avery and adjust to the other team instead of having them adjust to us

i always wanted to try a big lineup of dirk/bass/damp, i think it couldve worked against a team like NO where one could guard peja at the 3 pt. line plus we couldve prevented those offensive boards that killed us all series.

The other team is going to put their SF on Dirk. But with Bass and Dampier in the game, it makes it MUCH MUCH harder for Dirk to post that player up because their are less shooters to spread the floor. And we all know Dirk is better facing a PF with less quickness than a SF who might lack size but makes up for it with quicker feet. And so do we really want Dirk going 1v1 on the perimeter againt most SFs? Hell no. It's just a bad idea to have this lineup consistently. Its fine to cahnge it up every now and then, but its no starting lineup and wouldnt be successful.

Since Bass is capable of hitting mid-range jumpers on a consistent basis that lineup might work.
I always wanted Avery to go to a jumbo lineup like that to see what type of mismatches we could create. However, Avery was asked this question and his reply was that he didn't like Bass and Damp in the game at the same time for spacing reasons.

If we could get a decent shot blocking backup center that has a decent short range jumper, it might be a better lineup with Dirk, Bass and Kidd.
I could see that giving some fits to certain teams because Kidd would have more room to work. When Avery pulled Damp this season, we were extremely vulnerable at protecting the rim. I don't want to see that crap again.

Im saying we should get Marion instead of a SG... We should go with a lineup with some size and power.

I am saying Bass should start. So, we would need to trade for a SG, not Marion with Bass being able to start.

you are a moron, we tried dirk at C in the playoffs and you know what happened? we got killed on the offensive glass, it wasnt completely his fault but we had no size out there. so stfu before you know what the **** you're talking about knicks fan

That would definitely help offensively, but unless Bass improves his rebounding and defense it would hurt us on the other end. I wouldn't mind trying it though, especially when Dampier isn't giving us anything.

Dampier was giving us absolutely nothing on either end. He averaged 4.2 boards in the playoffs to Bass' 6.8, and Bass scored 8 ppg more.

well bass also averaged 7 more minutes then dampier, im sure he couldve averaged as many rebounds as bass if he was getting that many minutes

and even during the season when avery would go w/a dirk/bass lineup we'd get killed on the glass. its a decent idea to maybe try and give your team a spark but you're in trouble when you have to rely on a lineup when you know you'll get killed rebounding wise

Dirk is often better at C than PF, IMO. The problem is that he can't defend the basket by blocking shots, and he's not strong enough or athletic enough to really box out bigger guys down there. You really need a shot-blocking, great-rebounding PF to play next to him if you want Dirk at C (think Rasheed, K-Mart, or Okafor).

A healthy Jermaine O'neal is PERFECT next to Dirk.
