Is Trading Howard in our best interest?

Let's face it, Josh Howard disappeared at the end of the season and in the playoffs. But, he showed up for the rest of the 2007-08 campaign. Avery had him score in bunches early and seemingly disappear in the second half of games. If he were coached properly, he could be the all-star he was a couple of seasons ago. I think Carlisle can do that for Josh and the Mavs.
If we trade Josh, we won't get back all the production we send out. In fact, our best bet is to salary dump. Also, if we trade Howard it is the overall consensus that we get back a SG rather than a SF. Stack is usually included in these trade offers. It's not worth it. Let's see how the Mavs do under Carlisle and find some talent to fill in the holes left by the outgoing FA players...

My thoughts are like this.
Is Howard a good talent? Yes.
Did he have a bad series against the Hornets? Hell yeah.
And yes he further clouded (get it...like smoke) his future here by admitting he smokes the occassional blunt. But he should not be discarded for anything less than an upgrade for our team.
I think Marion is an upgrade because we get better defensively and I think Marion would be a better complement to Kidd and thrive on the break and in a motion offense like Carsile's.
I'm not 100% sold on Redd. While I like Redd and think he's fills a scoring void, he's a liabilty on defense and is yet another jump shooter. I just can't see him catching alley-oops from Kidd like I can Marion.
I think Howard is capable of rebounding and playing well in a new motion system BUT he has to prove to me that he can be consistent.
Howard was solid in the playoffs last year while Dirk struggled and everyone called for Dirk to be traded. We didn't and Dirk returned to form. The situation has now flip-flopped and only time will tell what will happen.
I just hope we don't sell Howard short.

you are right there foty, shouldnt sell him short. I'd love a marion for howard n stack deal. definitely an upgrade there, first because stack leaves

and second because marion should do better with kidd than howard
make it happen
do it

hawks would offer marvin and zaza for howard
but if you are lucky enough to land marion then by all means do it , but marion might be hard to get

None of this will ever happen and we can't trade that pick this year anyway.

I think trading Howard is what is best for the team... We need a player who is more reliable. Obviously a Marion swap would be great, but Dallas needs youth as well, so trading into the lottery would be a good move IMO as well. They shouldnt sell him short though.

What about the possibility of trading him for a low post scorer? I think Jermaine O'Neal would be an interesting complement to Dirk.

personally, i think we should give him one more year, but I wouldn't pass up on an upgrade...but the chances of that I feel are very unlikely. Plus even though Donnie and Cuban are going to be making moves this summer, after reading Cuban's blog, you can tell he's not going to do anything that binds him in a bad contract for the next few years.

I'm onboard for Marion if we can get him. Otherwise, keep Josh and try to boost his value during the season.

So is there a way that we sweeten the Josh + Stack deal with 09 and 11's 2nd round picks along with $3 mil cash for Marion? I'd really like to keep Terry to add with Bass and a George S&T for a really good SG (maybe for JRich or Redd (at the point of acquiring Marion I'm not as worried about Redd's lack of defense)).
That would deplete our bench quite a bit, but our starting 5 would be awesome. Marion/Kirilenko/JSmith are the type of SF we need here because of their off the ball help defense in the paint and their ability to sneak in and grab ORebs, as well as being a decent scoring option.
After that we use the MLE to sign either Kwame or Diop then we end up with:
Kidd/Lue/JJB
JRich or Redd/Wright/RTerry
Marion/Wright/RTerry
Dirk/Marion/Allen
Damp/Kwame or Diop/Allen
Again, hugely upgraded roster! Three guys who can put up 40 in a given night, Defense where it's needed, and some run and gun for the fans!

There's no reason to sweeten the pot.
Miami fan's got spoiled after how they ripped off Phoenix and Dallas fans are used to bad trades and over spending with cash & picks.
Howard + Stack for Marion or look elsewhere. Simple as that. If miami does nto like it, fine, Marion won't be in a Mavs uniform.

I dont think there is anyway Miami does Howard + Stack for Marion. Marion is the better player by far and Stack doesnt really do anything for them IMO.
As for the trade idea above, there is no way in hell that Milwuakee or Charlotte trade Jason Richardson or Michael Redd and they only get back JET + Bass. Niether team has any need for JET and Bass gets lost in the shuffle on my teams probably.

^^^ you don't get either of those guys to DAL without sending Howard to them...
