yea we need to totally jump on that. I don't ever want to have to see a malik allen, juwan howard, or whoever else in the frontcourt when damp and dirk are out

How much should we be willing to give him? Maybe $9 mil / 3 yrs?

I hope we sign him, but I dont think he is worth the full MLE... Which is what I have a feeling Mark will offer him

I dont see that happening. Even under a new coach he's a bench player and theres no way the MLE should be used on a role player.

Diop is easliy worth the MLE.

Big defensive centers...especially 25yo centers....are not cheap.

JES, Big Defensive Centers with no offensive game are cheap though...

Mark my word....Diop will get at least full MLE. Not as much as Ben Wallace, Marcus Camby, Erick Dampier, Samuel Dalemburt, or Mutumbo at age 26, but he will get full MLE at least.

Granted we are far from the New York Knicks, but if Jerome James can get the entire MLE, than I think Diop can get it from somebody. The only thing playing in our hands to get Diop cheaper is the fact that very few teams have a lot of money to spend this offseason. Still I would be suprised to see Diop not get the MLE or something close to it since free agent big men are always overpaid.

I agree with all of you... even if Diop has no offense game... he's a 7 footer with above average shot-blocking ability. He's going to get paid.

I really think Diop liked being in Dallas and I could see him coming back for less money just to be part of the team and city again. Cuban put him on the map and I'm pretty sure he loved being here.

We should roll the dice with Diop unless Ron Artest is all of a sudden a MLE free agent. He shows signs of improvement. In Damp's absence, he's solid on offense.

Why not trade for Diop? Do a S&T George for Diop!

Make it happen, as the Picture King would say!

Great to hear Diop mention Dallas and refer to it as back home. I'd love for Diop to come back, he'd feel a hole that's been missing since we traded him, and he should come at a fair price. Make it happen!

Has anyone thought how much the tables turn on the trade if we re-sign Diop? Think about it, Diop becomes a loaner for approximately 30 games to the Nets. We give them a retired KVH, an average SG Hassell, a one-dimensional (sorry JES) PG Harris, and SG "Oh no", Mo Ager Two #1 picks and that's about it. I am starting to think if pending our re-signing Diop that we end up better off in the long run...

LOL, thats the dumbest statment I have heard in weeks.
And long run = Jason Terry at PG as Kidd is antiquated. Even if by some miricle we win it all next year, that is still defined as short term as Harris has another whole decade to give vs 1 yr with Kidd.

if it takes the MLE to sign Diop then you've just hampered your best way to improve/retool without trading away an asset.

and i'd think it highly doubtful NJN would S&T Diop to DAL or else Diop would not have to have been included in the trade in the first place...

so in effect if you get Diop back then it is like you forfeited your MLE and can't sign anyone this summer other than vet mins or S&Ts....

I'm not against bringing Diop back, but it doesn't change the trade value if it limits your future signings...

The way I see it Diop was in Avery's doghouse and not gonig to get much PT anyway. Trade or not he was going to be a FA so why not come back to place where you were loved and play for a new coach in a new system?

I'd support Dampier + Bass + Stack for JO and then sign Diop for full MLE.

C: O'neal (24 min) / Diop (24 min)
PF: Dirk (36 min) / O'neal (12 min)
SF: Howard (36 min) / R.Terry (12 min)
SG: Terry (36 min) / Jones (12 min)
PG Kidd (36 min) / Barea (12 min)
