Which PG would be the best fit with Dirk

This is a random thread, maybe not realistic, but who do you think among this group would be the best fit with Dirk, provided if its not Kidd that we can get them by using Kidd, I know its unrealistic but just wanted see what my fellow Mavs fan thought.

Out of this group, Id say Chauncey because he is a good passer and a bigger scoring threat than any of the others listed, which is what Dirk needs most- somebody to be able to take some of the pressure off scoring wise.. Nash would be better for Dirk than any of the point guards listed though.

I can't believe Gilbert Arenas got a vote. Or even made a "PG" poll as he is not a PG at all; just playing the 1 in Washington. They played better with Antonio Daniels running the point.

That said, Deron Williams, Devin Harris, Tony Parker, Chris Paul all should have made this list over any of the above mentioned names.

I don't really see how Devin Harris should be placed above Chauncey Billups or Baron Davis or even mentioned with some of the names you added.

Sorry, but this thread doesn't quite make sense to me...

Dimitris Diamantidis.

He's the MVP and best defender at guard position.

At 6-5, he's quick and athetlic to stay with the lightning quick PG. His block on CP3 is spectacular. He's a proven winner. He can defend, rebound, dash, dunks, and shoot 3s.

He's my pick.

Of course, with those five, I would choose Billups for sure.

This is not a poll of pick your favorite PG; its a poll of which PG fits best with Dirk. Harris fit great with Dirk so he deserves to be on the list as I never gave a specific order. Harris is easily better fit with Dirk than Parker who would add another player that is not all that on defense next to Dirk. Whether you want to acknowledge any of that or not is your dilemma. Billups is too slow and methodical to complement Dirk. Davis, Mr. I'll shoot bricks from 35 ft before passing to Dirk, would not be a better fit than Harris at all. Ironiclly, I voted for Davis from the list of options the OP gave.

Besides his defense, what other attribute makes Harris a good fit. I would think the perfect point guard for Dirk would need be a defensive point guard, a leader, a person who can be counted on in the clutch, a shooter, and someone who can create shots for Dirk.

I happen to think that some of the other point guards mentioned have a better combination of those skills than Devin Harrris and I am pretty sure I am not alone. But as you say, I guess that is our dilemma. Whatever that means.

Okay, maybe we see things differently, but Billups is slow, easily guarded and predictable; Harris (& the other PGs I mentioned) is not. Billups/Dirk would be a easy team to defend. That combo is not getting out of the 1st round any better than Kidd/Dirk combo did.

Harris is fast, can make you back off of him for the easy shot, can slash past you if you defend him too close, can draw 2 defenders easing the burden on Dirk, is a good passer despite what some of you think, can get easy fouls on the opponents PG and plays good defense.

Easily, Harris/Dirk > Billups/Dirk

Dirk's game offensively is very similar to Rasheed Wallace's. Chauncey is not a great point guard by any means, but in the same way he and Sheed work so well together I think he and Dirk would work well together. I choose Chauncey.

The ironic thing is in many ways he's the opposite of Jason Kidd. He's better in the half-court than transition, he's not a great passer, but he's a great shooter.

Chauncey's one of my favorite players so I'd have to go with him out of that list.
I don't know if he's the "best" fit with Dirk, but he's a very smart and reliable player and is a scoring threat. Plus he is clutch.

Nash is great, but too much of a defensive liability out there with Dirk as well.

Deron Williams would be a great fit, but that's such a dream.

I'm not sure who the best is just with Dirk, but I know Harris was the best for our team. He's the best defender of that group, and he was the only guy we had who could penetrate and make something happen when the offense got stagnant.

Over 75% of the shots Hinrich, Billups, and Arenas take are jumpers. Kidd can't score at all. Davis can at least get to the rim, but he throws up terrible shots all the time.

Dirk seems to think Kidd's a pretty good fit with him.

It's rather funny that the poll consist of all scorers except for Jason Kidd. That doesn't go in the favor of Jason and sets it up for him to not win. Dirk doesn't necessary need his point guard to score, he needs someone that can free him up, and open lanes for everyone else on the team. Jason did that.

Wasn't Dirk hinting at being okay if he was traded (post-aquiring Kidd comment)?

I think Dirk was saying that he understood if the Mavs decided to trade him to rebuild and I think he would have said the same thing if Harris was here and the Mavs lost in the first round.

It's kinda hard to know what people are thinking when they are trying to be politically correct. I think Dirk is his own worst enermy...or at least was this year.
