Carlisle arrived in Dallas on Thursday with his family with the expectation of a Friday news conference. He was joined in Big D by the two former NBA head coaches -- Dwane Casey and Terry Stotts -- who will be assistants on Carlisle's first staff with the Mavericks.
Okay, so are these guys in charge of the offense then? All I know is Stotts came up with the Bogut high screen to Redd that was virtually unstoppable.

Harris is not a coach anymore.
I expect Westphal and Elie gone. Prunty would probably be retained but he was Avery's guy too, so maybe not.

I liked Prunty, but was not too big on Westphal or Elie, even considering it was their first year in Dallas. I dont know much about Stotts or Casey though, so I cant judge whether this is a good thing or not.

Over the years I have gained some bad feelings towards Terry Stotts. I hope they can change now that he's joining our coaching staff. It's just one of those things I will pay close attention to.

Basically he's short days with the Atlanta Hawks and teams like the Bucks continuing to give him a shot. I'm sure he's going to do well behind Rick and maybe the vacation he took not long ago overseas gave him a better persepective.

Look into the Atlanta situation, he took over for LOn Kruger who was fired then the ownership started dumping players. Who has succeeded in the last 15 years in Atlanta. As far as Milwaukee, he took a team that had 4 new starters and got them into the play-offs his first year and had them around .500 before injuries wiped out the entire roster his second year. Note how well his replacement did and his predecessor in each job.
He and Carlisle will make a great combo and if Dwayne Casey is part of the equation they may have the best staff in the NBA.

bigzy and epicurus are 2 posters who are friends with Terry Stotts. Most Bucks fans hated Stotts and gave him nickname "Beaker". Those 2 posters were always there to defend him. Epicurus is now legend on Bucks board. Wait enough and you will meet him (if he doesn't die before as he is very old.) He was actually Stotts' teacher long time ago. Very interesting person indeed

That is only partially true Sig, read the board now and notice all the amart posters realize the problem was not Stotts but the personel. His making the play-offs as a head coach looks pretty impressive considering what happenned before and after him. Of course you will never admit that and you actually believe the bucks are heading in the right direction. I still recommend that GPS system to help you find your way.
Dallas fans if you get Stotts and Casey as assistants with Carlisle you will be extremely happy with the results.

whatever drama happened on another board is irrelevant here. low-no drama here please.
If these coaches come over I'm sure they'll get a nice honeymoon period like anyone else.

As a Bucks fan, my belief is Stotts was never the right person for the head coaching job. The record clearly indicates that although it is worth noting that Stotts' first team was much better than what the Bucks put forward the past two seasons (faint praise perhaps but still worthy of some praise in my opinion). He also was done in by some poor personnel work from former GM Larry Harris and the current owner Herb Kohl. His final team was a poor composition of players who had no interest in defending and a large number of players on expiring deals gunning for big money contracts. So there was a heavy emphasis on players trying to "get theirs" offensively and a selfish brand of ball became the norm. Not surprisingly, the team stunk and Stotts ended up being fired - only to be replaced by someone who proved to be a considerable downgrade (Larry Krystkowiak).
All that being said, I think Stotts is a terrific assistant head coach. I long said on the Bucks' board that I did not believe it was a criticism of Stotts to say that maybe he was cut out to be an assistant and not the head guy. I don't believe that's a bad thing by any means. He's a smart basketball guy and he has proven in the past he can work very well in helping players develop as an assistant (Michael Redd, for example, has long credited Stotts with playing a key role in his development).
Bottom line - I think this is a good hire for the Mavs. I think Stotts will do very well as an assistant with Carlisle. I'd be very surprised if he didn't.
