Was this trade a buisness decision or a basketball decision?

-My friend and I were in a heated discussion yesterday. He stating that trading for Jason Kidd was a reason for Cuben to make more money and a buzz around the team. I thought this trade was to make the Mavs better on offense right now.

I think it is a Basketball decision, wile he thinks it is a Business decision. Does Cuben care more about the Team or the money he makes on the team?

I think Cuban cares more about the team. i think he would rather lose a lot of money and win a championship than make a lot of money but have a horrible team.

Just my opinion though. Nothing to really back that up.

Cuban ate a bunch of Van Spare money on this trade. It was about the team. But not a bad topic started by an outsider though...

You get to hang a future hall of famer's jersey in the rafters of the AAC when he retires, bringing him back to his origin, while staying competitive. It was a win/win either way; Harris was not going to take this team over the top.
You can put a price on the retirees and community involvement from the players...

This is a pretty serious question? No one else has any input? I mean come'on!

Definitely the team.

Here is why imo:

There was a lot of talk about Harris' failure to meet expectations but I think it had more to do with the FO's lack of confidence in Dirk's ability to lead the team.

Cuban and Donnie can't publicly say that but I think they felt this team needed better leadership. Harris was the logical trade piece that could get the best available leader for the team at that time and Kidd just happened to play the same position.

The Kidd trade was more about getting leadership on the floor more than anything else imo. It had nothing to do with money. Cuban has a tremendous desire for a championship...he has already experienced receiving a boatload of money. He doesn't have a championship.

Just look at Terry, Damp, and Stack's contract/salaries along with Fin, Bradley, Daniels, and LaFrentz. That should tell you that overpaying, or money, means nothing to Cuban in terms of attempting to better this team.

Well, if trading the one position that should not be traded in mid season equates to a basketball decision, then there is that possibility.

If that is the case, we need a whole new front office.

IMO, this was strickly a buisness decision as Kidd had more "name on the back of my jersey" impact than any impact on the floor.

I think it was a bit of both. Cuban invested alot of money in the trade and wouldn't do so to put a bad team on the court.

The team was stagnant and needed some new blood.

So did the fans.

While Kidd does bring in a lot of excitement, he is one of the smartest basketball players in the league today... It was definately a basketball decision. Cuban would rather lose a lot of money and win a championship than gain a lot of money and not have anything... Every owner in the league would.
