But his Euro friendships weren't strictly American. A 2007 summer league teammate also drafted in the second round and playing in Greece kept close tabs. Lithuanian-born Renaldas Seibutis, another swingman the Mavs have high hopes for this offseason, made it a point to check in on Terry.

"Renaldas was probably like my mentor when I was over there," Terry said. "He spoke with me all the time. He pretty much kept me informed with what my status was and giving me feedback from Avery [Johnson] and telling me what to work on. He would come and visit me on occasion. He did a great job of making me feel like they cared when I was over there."

Since returning to the States, Terry has packed on an extra 15 pounds of muscle and checks in at a robust 240. He's been working at American Airlines Center for the past several weeks. Summer league practices begin next month, with the Mavs scheduled to begin play in Las Vegas on July 11. Should the summer go as expected, a training camp invite is there for the taking. Some of his recent workouts included a pair of new mentors with ties back home.

Terry has formed a quick bond with Howard and Stackhouse. Howard and Terry share the same hometown and high school in Winston-Salem. Terry heard all the Howard stories and lived through all the comparisons. Stackhouse is a fellow Tar Heel.

"I probably have the best veteran guys that you can ask for," Terry said. "I couldn't ask for a better situation right now."

That includes his early dealing with new coach Rick Carlisle.

"I'm extremely ecstatic with how he takes the time to work individually with me," Terry said. "Coming here I didn't expect him to be hands on with me like he has. Last year I really didn't speak with Avery that much. He told me what he wanted me to work on, but as far as just working with me and getting my mechanics right, Coach Carlisle has done that.

"I'm just happy that he cares for me like he does up until this point because I've heard stories about him, but there's nothing like having your own experiences. I'm looking forward to playing for him. Whatever coach asks me to do, I'm doing it to the best of my abilities."

The way I see it Reshawn Terry is our first round pick for the this year. The kid has to be better than Hassell, Jones, Ager, etc.

I'm actually much, much higher on Seibutis. Probably won't be a star in the league but a very solid player.

I like Seibutis' game and also feel that he may have a little more upside than Terry. Seibutis seems to play with a lot of aggression and has average size for a SG. He is also pretty skilled and is somewhat athletic although Terry is actually more athletic and a better defender.

I'd love for 2 of the 3 (Siebutis, Terry, and/or Wright) to take minutes away from Stack, George and Jones this next season.

Lets hope they can each come in and help mavs ditch all of the dinosaurs. Primarily ed Jones and george.Wright can then re-sign and stack can go bye bye

George, Jones, and Stack all have to go this off-season. However, I think we could somehow use George's Bird's rights to improve this team (like KVH last season).

Fine. For what? I have never been so confused going into an off season. I think that is where george ends up.

If he can be a pesky little thorn in the side kinda like whosabitch in LA, then I think it would be a good pickup, but I don't see him being better than Terry. But honbestly, I don't watch that much college and I only really saw Terry and Seibutis in last year's summer league. I was impressed with Terry then and think Seibutis can find a nitche, but not on this team.

Agreed!

Stack = trade bait or trade filler
Jones = good trade bait, even better if he just opts out.
George = good S&T bait. Bass filles his PF role and Terry can fill his SF role.

I'm thinking more as a filler, not a direct trade. In other words, I could see George packaged with either Howard or Bass to help make salaries work.

Wright, Bass, and George for Maggette?
George, Jones and Bass for Mike Miller?
Stack and George for VC (that is probably dreaming...depends on how desperate NJ gets in dumping that contract though)?

Wouldn't Jones be better as trade bait to us if he doesn't opt out?
In other words, wouldn't his expiring be more valuable to us?

I'm wondering...if Jones hears rumors that he will be traded and then elects to opt out, will we be able to trade him?
I guess what I'm asking...is there a deadline for him to opt out?
That is a little confusing to me...do you know how that works?

Jones cannot be traded until he officially declares that he is not opting out.

And if we are just a 2 mil trade hit away from upgrading our team, then I can see value for him. Unfortunatley, I see his $1,976,400 X 2 (lux tax) being a bigger burden than help.

Really, who is out there that we can get for salary relief?

Redd? Okay, I'd give Stack, George & Jones, but Milwaukie would want Howard whom I would not trade for Redd.

Carter? Same as Redd, though I'd hesitate even adding his salary for Stack, George and Jones just because of Carter's cap hit, tax hit, injury history and chemistry with Kidd.

M. Miller? Stack + Jones can match him, but Memphis has no incentive.

Is there anyone else out there you would want that is a possibility to be had for cap relief adn is worth it to us?

What about trade filler?
Howard + filler (Stack level) for Marion
Howard + Jones can get Redd, but like I said, I'd rather have Howard

I could go on, but I think Jones should just opt out. If we can do an upgrade trade with Jones, by all means keep him, but I doubt it will happen unless George signs another 1 yr deal and we deal all 3 of them near the trade deadline.

Why are you guys so negative about George and EJ? Granted they couldn't score a lick, but they were our two best defenders and really hustled their asses off. I don't want them back next season as much as you guys but I don't necessarily dislike them.

I don't dislike George. What I do dislike is Cuban's reluctance to get players we need because of salary, the reason why we did not use last year's MLE. Signing George to 4-5 mil and haveing Jones at 2 mil will hurt even further, especially since we can try to get something going with Bass/Terry for George's role and Seibutis/Wright for Jones role all for less than what it will take to sign George and I doubt we skip a step on the floor.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I am not looking for anything great, but good solid play from him.

Well, that is basically my point. Since we don't have any huge expirings Jones and George would be worth having around TDL.

If a team is looking to unload a player for salary relief it will probably be a high dollar player so it will be important to have some expirings as a trading chip...especially since we have no youth to offer.

If we have no expirings around the TDL and this team is in need of another piece (which I'm sure it will), we will have absolutely nothing to offer other than our potential lotto pick.

I'm not sure of any players out there now or potentials at TDL but there are always a few that request trades.
