Would you deal Josh for Odom?

Sounds like the Lakers are down on Odom after his not doing much in the finals. Would they be willing to deal him for Josh and Stack? Would the Mavs? Odom gives them a much bigger SF than Josh. Much better passer and rebounder than Josh. Scoring-wise they might lose a little, but Josh didn't seem to fit with Kidd and maybe Odom would. He could also move over to the PF when Dirk moves to C.
Not a trade that would solve all their problems, but it would change up the mix, and with Kidd dishing to Dirk and Odom, it could make for an interesting offense. One heck of a lot better passing team then they were a year ago. They'd still need a perimeter defending SG and a back-up C.
Also Odom only has one year left on his deal, so maybe this helps the Mavs find the flexibility to go over the MLE on Bass if he continues to develop. Not sure if this deal alone would get them under the cap, and then what going over MLE to sign Bass would mean as far as signing Odom again. All that cap junk just makes my head hurt. Just saying maybe it helps in that regard.

For cap flexibility I'd do it. Odom and Howard are similar. If I could get out of his deal and Stack's, I would. I'd try it for a year, then see what happens.

Good point, since we know Josh Howard doesn't ever use drugs.
1) Odom's suspension for drugs was something like 7 years ago, and at least he was remorseful. Josh hasn't gotten there yet.
2) Odom has one year left on his deal. He has a great deal more financial motivation to stay clean than Josh does, and the Mavs would have a great deal more flexibilty in dealing with the results.

I actully really like Lamar as a PF. I think he's the type of athletic PF that can do alot of things for your team. Put him next to a defensive center & you've got a nice mix. But I dont think he can play SF consistently, which is why the Lakers are considering moving him (even though they should definately trade Gasol ans get a 2nd option scorer at the SF position...I cant believe they arent even considering that, you think the lane was clogged with Gasol/Odom, wait til its Gasol/Bynum, but thats another story).
I just dont think a team with Odom/Kidd playing heavy minutes and spreading the floor for Dirk is going to work. He is very inconsistent and even playing him at PF and Dirk at C, our defense would still be piss poor. I'd pass.

I'd pass as well. Odom just isn't as talented as Howard.

No, thanks. Howard is a very talented scorer who can rebound and defend. The problem is between his ears; he gets his sh-t together and we'll be fine.
Odom's just not good enough of a shooter to play the 3. The only way this works is if either him or Dirk moves to the center position, and I'm cringing at the thought of the both of them protecting the rim.

They should throw in Jordan Farmar so the Mavs could consider it.

You know, I go for the deal. I think it creates some wicked mismatches. Dirk can play SF or C as well as PF. I really like it.

I'm curious to know if Lamar would attempt more 3 pointers with us compared to what he does with LA.

Howard is Odom with an upside. Pass and keep J.Ho.

Ehh, Farmar is like what Devin Harris use to be without as many physical gifts. He's atheltic, but I see him as just a good backup PG. We need to improve our qaulity of players, not gain depth. Trading Howard for Odom/Farmar hurts that direction.

I doubt LA would even be willing to do this trade. The last thing LA needs to do is get smaller and it's not like there is really an age difference between the two. (1 year) On our end, I would expect a filler and or two of LA's second round picks. Those second round picks would be Charlotte's 2009 and Memphis 2010. Still, not likely for LA to even bite as it's rather one sided for us.

Even stronger at rebounding if they kept Lamar. I seriously doubt Phil Jackson would want Josh Howard over Lamar, as Phil really like Lamar's unselfishness, and Lamar has already learned Phil's difficult system.

Well I think if it came down to keeping Lamar the entire season next year or getting Howard, they'd go for Howard. Lamar/Gasol/Bynum frontline would be way too clogged and their offense would stall out really fast. Yes the rebounding would be good, but they wouldnt lose much switching Howard with Odom since Odom would be on the perimeter guarding and Howard's an excellent rebounding SF.
I do agree that Odom should stay with the Lakers (if they are smart). Gasol probably has more trade value and when Bynum comes back, I dont see any reason Bynum cant give them what Gasol did. And whatever Gasol brings in a trade, like a SF, would be a huge plus for the Laker.
