Carmelo to meet w/ nuggets monday

The nuggets are meeting with carmelo on monday, so this either means they plan to trade him or that they are keeping him. IF they are planning to trade him I think the mavs should seriously consider going after him. I know there have been ideas and trades already created here for him but I'm bringing it up again since it is so close to the draft and beginning of free agency.

I have a few trades with the nuggets so we will see which is preferred.

Mavs Trade:
Josh Howard
Jerry Stackhouse
Erick Dampier
(Depending on money, S&T of Eddie or DG)
2008 Second Round Pick
2009 Second Round Pick

Nuggets Trade:
Carmelo Anthony
Nene Hilario
2008 First Round Pick

This gets Denver out of Nene's contract a year earlier with Dampiers instead and 2 years sooner with Howard instead of Carmelo. Also this makes it easier for the nuggets to replace Carmelo since Howard plays the same position. Dampier would give them a very good backup center or starter if they plan to move Camby this summer as well. Stackhouse will help with the cap since his contract falls from 7 mil this year to 2 next year.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mavs Trade:
Josh Howard
Brandon Bass
Jerry Stackhouse
2008 Second Round Pick

Denver Trades:
Carmelo Anthony
Linas Kleiza
Anthony Carter
2008 First Round Pick

I know people here don't want to give up Bass but its very likely that we do since he is one of our few valuable trade pieces. This gives us the second (or first) scorer we need beside dirk. Carmelo will spend the summer playing with Kidd for the olympics so they will get some practice together. Also Kleiza would help out our bench since we would be losing a big piece of it with Bass. Carter is just there to fill the money.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dallas Trades:
Josh Howard
Brandon Bass
S&T DG or Eddie Jones

Denver Trades:
Carmelo Anthony
2008 First Round Pick

This makes it simple. The mavs want Carmelo and we have to trade Howard+Talent to get him. George or Jones could be used to fill the salary. I would prefer Jones because I think George can still be used. This gives the nuggets a young player in Bass to get minutes at PF behind the injury prone Kenyon Martin. As well as a good player in Howard to replace Carmelo.
We get the scorer in Carmelo, who can also be there to help close out games and get to the line. With the first round pick we can look to get Chris Douglas Roberts or if Deandre Jordan slips I would love to take a chance on him. He has the upside to be a very good defensive player ( I believe he will be very similar to Tyson Chandler) that can dunk very well.(I don't think he will be there then but on ESPN's mock draft it has him going 21st so who knows.

In all of the trades, the first thing you need to do is take Denver's 1st out. Melo is EASILY worth more than any of these packages and if they're already selling him cheap they're sure not going to add their first on top.

The main reason I added the pick was because the mavs are looking to move into the first round, more than likely late first round, and the nuggets are looking to cut back on money so maybe the mavs could throw in cash and pick up the draft selection as well.

Too good to be true.
We need to take back Kenyon Martin for S & T DG, Lue, & JJB with artificial expiring contract.

Mavs Trade:
Josh Howard
Brandon Bass
Jerry Stackhouse
Erick Dampier
S & T Devean George
S & T Tyron Lue
S & T Jose Juan Barea
Cash
2008 Second Round Pick
2009 Second Round Pick

Nuggets Trade:
Carmelo Anthony
Nene Hilario
Kenyon Martin
2008 First Round Pick

Dallas roster:
C - Diop / Nene / Fazekas
PF - Dirk / K-Mart / Pops
SF - Anthony / RAT / EJ
SG - JET / AW / Frahm
PG - Kidd / Weaver? / Seibutis

Draft a defensive PG like Kyle Weaver or Mario Chambers with Denver's pick.

Denver roster:
C - Camby / Damp / Hunter
PF - Bass / Najera / Gist?
SF - JoHo - Kleiza / DG
SG - JR Smith - Stack / Lue
PG - Iverson - Atkins / JJB

Draft a PF/SF combo like James Gist with Dallas's pick.

I believe the Nuggets are really pursing trades that will upgrade the team at Melo's expense. If Denver denies It I won't be one of the ones that that fall for it.

dtownmavs41, both of your trade proposals are horrible and don't help the future of the Nuggets.

Awful trades. Also, Melo is a horrible team player. There is a reason that a stacked team like Denver on paper cant do anything in the postseason. I would rather look around for other deals in the league for Josh's value (which you overestimate quite a bit) than go after Carmelo. Im still amazed that he made the USA team BTW

It's a lack of team defense, but yes, Melo is part of it, and is a reason for the defense being so terrible. However, I don't expect a 3 to be a lock down defender always, and Denver doesn't seem to care about playing any D. Maybe Karl should change his system instead of playing run an gun ball all the time.

Josh Howard is four years older, so even from a talent perspective, I would take Melo over Josh, and Mark Cuban would easily be able to fill his pockets with more money if Melo on was the team. I positives outweigh the negatives.

Who do you suggest we trade Howard for? Don't say to hold onto him because his value is low and wait to see how he does because if anyone from this team is moved it will be Howard, then Bass, then Stackhouse. There is no way we come into next season with our top 7 players staying the same.

If Howard needs to be moved at all (which I highky doubt he will be), it should be for a sign-and-trade player like Artest, Marion, or for a young talent in the draft.

Marion will want more money than Howard, he is also aging. He is a player that relies on his athletic ability and while he gets older that goes away and he won't be near as effective as he was in phoenix. Artest is in his last year in sactown, so he could easily walk after one year then what do we do? Maybe we can get him to sign an extension with the trade but there is no guarantee. Outside of the first 6 or 7 picks there is no one that will make the difference that Howard could. We need to trade him to get multiple players or Howard plus bass to upgrade.

What about
Dal Trades:
Josh Howard
Jerry Stackhouse
Brandon Bass
Future Pick

Denver Trades:
Carmelo Anthony
Steven Hunter

This gives Dallas the scorer and backup center, leaving them the mle to go after a defensive sg or maybe there will be a talent that think the mavs would have a good chance with their addition.

Denver gets a player in Howard who is better defensively and can still scorer 20 a game. Stackhouse can be used as a trade asset for the nuggets or they can hold onto him to lower their cap a little after this season. Bass could help them out with aging PF and he allows them to trade Nene or Camby while keeping a talented player at that position. The future pick can be conditional and details could be worked out accordingly.

At the meeting tomorrow, Carmelo may ask for a trade if he does not believe he will be kept in Denver. This could lower his trade value tremendously, so I believe this would be giving them much more than they could get elsewhere.

Marion would be my first choice but we don't have enough for Miami to accept. Most of the names that are being mentioned are the same age as Josh, but If we can't acquire one of them (Ron Artest, Maggs), I would like for us to try an get younger by going after Luol Deng or at least see what it would take on our end to acquire him. Gerald Wallace is two years younger, but has a longer contract, so I'm curious to see if Charlotte would like to try to work something out. If Charlotte is looking to go a different direction due to Gerald's injuries, we could try an move Jason for him, and I have been reading that Charlotte is seeking someone to backup Raymond Felton. However, Jason could provide the team with many needs on offense (not defense).
