There have been rumors that the mavs are looking to move into the first round of the draft this thursday. Teams that may look to sell their pick are Seattle(24), Denver(20), Portland(33 or 36), Memphis(28). If the mavs happen to move into the first round and Chris Douglas Roberts is still available I would love for the mavs to draft him. If he happens to have already been picked, which I believe he will, I think the mavs should look at Deandre Jordan from Texas A&M. He has the abilities to be a very high lottery pick, but he needs to polish his game and there are plenty of other things he needs to work on. The reason I like this pick is we already have Dampier under contract for the next 3 seasons so Jordan could back him up, playing maybe 20 minutes a game or so. This allows him to work on his game but we won't expect anything to great from him. He is a player that in 3 years could be the steal of this draft. He turns 20 at the end of July so he could possibly be a player the mavs could build around as well. With Bass and Jordan the future big men of this team they have a great foundation.
From watching Jordan in college I think he has what we need at backup center. He is extremely athletic (Dwight Howard athletic) and can get up and block shots. He will be a much better rebounder with work in the nba and with his athleticism we would finally have a center that can dunk the ball easily and would actually protect the basket.

Also there is a story out about JJ Redick believing he will return to the Magic, but I think they will be looking to move him. He has been there for two seasons and has struggled to find any minutes. I don't think it would take much for the mavs to get him if they wanted a sharpshooter. Maybe their second round pick and cash considerations would be enough to pry him out of Orlando. He could be a solid role player for the mavs, and someone to stick in the game when Dirk and others are getting doubled to hit open shots.

Is it possible to buy more than one pick? Anyway, we'd definitely buy one, we need some fresh blood, as Carlisle said, and i still hope that Seibutis and/or Reyshawn Terry will make their way into the rotation, i'm a dreamer.
I kinda like Barea's game too. Is Carlisle a good coach when it comes to young player's development?

You can buy as many as people are willing to sell I believe but I don't know how many Cuban would go after. If it cost about 3 mil for each pick then its 6 million for two then about 5 million total for their contracts this year then 5 million more over the cap so he has to pay that much more in penalties. So for two picks we are looking at about 16 million dollars for two first round picks, I think he would rather sign an undrafted player for less. I believe Terry will make the team, not too sure about Seibutis. Barea had times where he looked talented but he wasn't consistent enough when he got playing time. Carlisle is a good coach with that but I don't know how much the head coach is responsible for developing the younger players.

If the mavs plan on opening up their offense and getting out and running I believe JR Smith would be a great sg for this team. He is a RFA and the mavs could offer their full MLE to him but I don't know if thats enough to get him out of Denver. I don't believe that Denver will match an offer of 5.5-5.7 a year for 3-5 years so maybe he would leave for that. What are the thoughts about this?
Kidd/Terry
Smith/Stackhouse/Wright
Howard/R Terry/George
Dirk/Bass
Dampier/(Draft pick that mavs buy, Jawai or Jordan)

Not that they need any other young talent, but Portland just bought the #27 pick from the New Orleans Hornets accorrding to ESPN. Dallas sure as hell better have something up their sleeves because if all that it would take is to get a 1st round pick its sad....

There were rumors that the Blazers were looking to trade out of their pick at 13. This could be part of that process OR they are stockpiling pieces for a big trade later on...
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

I am not sold on Jordan. He does not do much for me, I don't see the Dwight Howard athleticism. He runs way to upright and the scouts saying he is lazy and not a hard worker. I think that his teammates at A@M did not like him. I would love to get a center, but I would have a hard time watching a lazy center with my Mavs. If possible I would rather have Hibbert.

I worry a bit when someone is compared with Joe Przybilla. Sure, the guy can score, rebound and block; but do we really need someone else who can do exactly what Damp can do? What we need in a complimentary center is someone like Diop, if not Diop. Just my opinion...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

if the mavs can sneak into the 1st rd jason thompson from rider is the choice, he is being over looked but has a solid game, and in rd 2 jr giddens or billy walker would fit well, I love brandon rush game but he seems unlikely now after great work outs
