Diop back to Dallas

Post#1 » by dtownmavs41 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 7:03 am

An article on realgm says that the DMN is reporting the mavs are going to offer their full mle to get Diop back. What are your thoughts? I think we are extremely overpaying a player that is very expendable. Maybe this story means the mavs have other plans to get a SG other than for a vet minimum.

This scares me on a couple of levels.
First that Diop has been identified as THE primary offseason FA target, means they face the proposition of not adding any SG help outside of the aforementioned VetMins AND that they are willing to overpay for a backup C who is a good locker room guy...

Secondly, that Stern will view this as tampering.
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

Ya I don't understand this at all. I thought we would get him for about 2-2.5 mil a year, and I think he would take that too. I really hope we are planning on a trade with stackhouse or something to get a good SG but I doubt that. I don't think this will be tampering just because sources have said they would offer the full mle doesn't mean they have contacted diop yet.

this would be an awful deal, i cant think diop would be worth the full MLE (despite what ive seen some C's paid) why cant we just try and sign francisco elson on the cheap and go after a SG/SF

Diop = good

For the full MLE = bad

Hopefully this means a trade has been discussed to land us a true SG.

I'm with foty on this one. Diop needs to be signed for part of the MLE.

I expect something like Damp + JoHo for Rasho + Kapano + TJ Ford + #17 pick to go down.
Otherwise, it doesn't make sense.

I disagree with most of you. Centers get paid in the league. Diop is young althetic post presence with Finals experience. None of the available center is better than him as a defender at the position.

If we swap Tj, Rasho and Filler for JO and Kapono and the pick for Artest, i'd do it.

Might as well. I don't think Diop is worth the full MLE, but I'm sure there are teams in need of a defensive, rebounding center willing to offer him that. Besides, I don't see anyone out there that can be had for the MLE who would really make a difference at the 2.

Successful Trade Scenario

Dallas Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players
Jermaine O'Neal
Ron Artest
Outgoing Players
Erick Dampier
Josh Howard
Jerry Stackhouse
Brandon Bass

Indiana Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players
Jerry Stackhouse
T.J. Ford
Jason Kapono
Outgoing Players
Jermaine O'Neal

Sacramento Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players
Rasho Nesterovic
#17
Outgoing Players
Ron Artest

Toronto Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players
Brandon Bass
Erick Dampier
Josh Howard
Outgoing Players
Rasho Nesterovic
T.J. Ford
Jason Kapono
#17

Just an example/pattern

Numbers add up nicely, obv. we need some miner fillers because we get very thin in the G position

JO/Diop
Dirk/min
Artest/George
JET/min
Kidd/Barea

Watch out for the big 4!

Let me see.

Miami trades: Matrix, #2 for Brand, #7.
Indiana trades: JO for TJ, Rasho, #17
Portland trades: Webster, #13, #27 for #6 and David Lee

= Dallas is looking to deal with Minnosota or Memphis.

I think it should be Stack, (S&T) DG, , #51 for Miller, Cardinal, #5
Dallas then re-sign Diop.

C - Diop / Damp / Pops
PF - Dirk / Bass / Cardinal
SF - Alexander / AW / RAT
SG - JoHo / Miller / Seibutis
PG - Kidd / JET / JJB

Memphis wants to get rid of #28, Cubes wants to buy. Wonder if we'll get it?

Orlando's #22 is also said to be available. I wonder if we could buy it.
At #22, the Mavs selected Chambers to deter CP3.

If every Mavs Fan spends one Dollar, we can buy our Mavs a pick

I believe we will get some pick later in the first round. I think the reason it is taking so long is because all of these rumored trades have to die down first. Probably when Orlando is on the clock they will say the pick has been traded, or same with Memphis with the 28th pick.

wouldn't it be great if we got both the #22 pick and the #28 pick. We could trade up and get GF Brandon Rush at 13-15...

It just makes me mad because I promise you he would sign here for less than what the Mavs are going to offer him anyways.

They are taking a pre-emptive strike to prevent anyone else from offering a substantial amount. It's the quick, "I'm waving money, please come home" move. We'll be okay as long as we have two picks in the 1st round. Honestly, it looks like we are going to end up with Memphis' pick for Howard...

Does it really matter?

Even if we only offered half, we would only be able to land a player like Jones, George, or Buckner with what is left over (It would probably be Fin).

Signing Diop for the full MLE or for part is only wasting Cuban's money and will help secure a lotto pick for us.

Surely there is a deal in the works to trade Bass and Stack to make some sense of this non-sense.

^ What he said. I have less and less faith in our front office if we're offering Diop the full MLE. Even if we're only offering half the MLE, I'd say it's a waste.
