Trades made on Draft Day during Mark Cuban’s ownership:

2007: Drafted Nick Fazekas with the 34th pick and Renaldas Seibutis with the 50th pick in the second round of the NBA Draft; acquired draft rights to Reyshawn Terry (44th pick) from the Orlando Magic for the draft rights to Milovan Rakovic (60th pick).

2006: Drafted Maurice Ager with the 28th pick in the first round of the NBA Draft and J.R. Pinnock in the second round with the 58th pick; traded Pinnock’s draft rights to the L.A. Lakers for a future second round pick.

2004: Traded Antawn Jamison and cash considerations to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Christian Laettner, Jerry Stackhouse and the draft rights to Devin Harris; traded a future first round draft choice to the Utah Jazz in exchange for the draft rights to Pavel Podkolzin; drafted Vassilis Spanoulis with the 50th selection in the NBA Draft and traded his rights to the Houston Rockets for the draft rights to Luis Flores.

2003: Drafted Josh Howard with the 29th selection and Xue Yuyang with the 57th selection in the NBA Draft; traded the rights to Xue to Denver for a 2004 second round draft pick.

2000: Drafted Etan Thomas with the 12th selection. Acquired the draft rights to Courtney Alexander (13th) from Orlando in exchange for cash and Dallas’ first round pick in the 2001 NBA Draft; acquired the draft rights to Donnell Harvey (22nd) and forward John Wallace from New York in exchange for guard Erick Strickland and the draft rights to Pete Mickeal (58th); drafted Dan Langhi (31st) and traded his rights to Houston for the right to Eduardo Najera (38th) and a 2001 second-round pick; traded Sean Rooks to the Los Angeles Clippers for guard Eric Murdock.

I just wish the Mavs would have done something to get into the first round. I dont understand why we couldnt have just bought a pick like Portland did from New Orleans. I would have been happy with the Mavs just doing that.

Due to being over the luxury tax the draft choice would have cost us double. Mark's not going to buy a mid first round for 3 million and be forced to pay double the salary. A late first makes the most sense to buy, but even still it's a bad investment for Mark if the player can't produce during his rookie season, and I don't think it's likely that one would put us into a better situation to get out of the first round.

I can understand not wanting to pay the bill to move into the 1st, but I thought there were some guys who dropped into the 2nd that we could have moved up to get. For all of our supposed interest in CDR, we did nothing even when he fell to 40.

remember DAL basically doesn't have any assets to deal beyond Howard or Stack
and you gotta find the right fit for a team to take those players

I disagree.

Anyone who can be signed-and-traded are considered assets because they allow the respective teams to control the finacial outputs.

Bass, though having a very low salary, is an asset because his contract is up in 2009 thus making him an expiring after the season.

We have assets, but do we have the FO personnel that can manage them correctly?

then the definition of what/who is a tradeable asset comes into play

Dirk is an asset but I by no means advocate trading him

when I cite Howard and Stack those are the two players I can see we could remove and replace easiest and would have some value to another team either playerwise or financially.

with Antoine Wright as a S&T asset, he is an asset but not one that will net you much of value today/this offseason.

with talent like Bass I am loathe to try and trade him now. I'd rather play him and pay him until he is expiring and then consider resigning or S&T him

after Howard and Stack, Damp is next on my list and I waver on whether or not to trade him - we'd have to secure Diop first and play a Diop/Bass C rotation for me to like it without seeing what the trade is first...
