Dal-Lac Trade

Post#1 » by dtownmavs41 » Sun Jun 29, 2008 7:24 pm

I know this isn't a sexy trade or one that would make much news but what about this.

Dal Trades:
Jerry Stackhouse
Future Second

Lac Trades:
Tim Thomas
S&T Shawn Livingston

Thomas is due about 13 million over the next two seasons and Stackhouse would help relieve some of his cap if they want to look for a few free agents next season. Also Livingston is an UFA because the Clippers didn't extend the qualifying offer, so we could get Livingston for a fairly cheap price and take a gamble on the 22 year old 6'9" PG. I know his injury was one of the worst I have ever seen, especially in basketball, but he has sat out a long time and I think in time he will come back to form. Also remembering Tim Thomas from his days with the suns really makes me not like him, but with stackhouses health and age I wouldn't mind them switching places. The future second round pick can be conditional if Livingston plays this season.

Tim Thomas is on my top 6 list of players I never want to see in a Mavs uniform. He is just beat out by Antoine Walker and Ricky Davis.

Livingston averages less than 50 games over his career. I just dont think this trade has much impact on mavs hopes

Tim Thomas is one of the most overpaid, overrated players in the league.
Shaun Livingston = Jay Williams

No thanks. Ill stick with Stackhouse.

It would be a gamble, but i would do it. Tim Thomas played great with Nash in PHX, i would hope Kidd can lead him back to these days. He would be a great backup for Dirk and make Bass expendable for trades. Livingston is worth a gamble, remember he was drafted in front of Harris IIRC.

Thomas put up much better numbers than Stackhouse did last season, and Stackhouse is almost guaranteed to miss atleast 25 games every season. This would also allow us to shop Bass and give us a player who could backup Kidd by the time he retires. Livingston may not pan out but he is a better option than JJB or Lue as a long term option. Especially since we only have one first round pick in the next 2 seasons, it doesn't give us much of a chance to get a young point guard.

Tim Thomas is not in the top 25 most over payed players, and he may be overrated but he is better that almost anyone we could put on our bench. Stackhouse needs to be traded and this could fill a need of backup pg and replace Bass if we plan to move him.

And clearly Livingston averages less than 50 games a year because he was hurt during his 3rd season and missed the remainder of it, but he was very promising before his injury.

Played 30 his rook year, and 61 his second. I am alwasy wary of Clipper players. Always surrounded by defeat.

I wouldn't mind trying to sign Livingston, but I don't want any part of Tim Thomas either. I can't stand the guy.

A,

Why are you trying to offer us a broken down jalopy like LIvingston. Stop, please.

Tim Thomas is mean and nasty and sure we could use that and his threes. Magette we love and covet dearly.

But don't throw livingston our direction, please.

Sheesh!

I agree with you your dallas mavs, we should just keep JJB as our PG of the future and have Stackhouse on the bench for maybe half the season. Even when Stackhouse is in, he only produces once every 3 games.

It's not enough value for the Clippers. They only have to deal with Tim Thomas for another two years and he continues to be a very productive player. I don't feel he's overpaid for what he can do on offense.

It's better than not producing at all which Livingston could end up doing...

Your sarcasm got a smile outta me.
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

I would do the maggette deal, even with TT in it. we give up terry and bass for maggette. I dont count stack and the 2nd rounder, because they are worth nothing.
given that bass only plays a limited role behind dirk, he is expandable. maggette would be a nice 2, our starting five with
kidd
maggette
howard
dirk
damp
would sure be nice. TT could come from the bench for a few minutes, he wont contribute a whole lot but he isnt that bad either. livinstone may very well be jay williams II but what the hell. I'd do maggette for terry and stack alone, so the bonus of having livingstone wouldnt hurt. if he ever produces than its even better

With Brand opting out it becomes more likely that LAC tries to cut the deal of TT for expirings at the expense of talent. There's no way they take Terry now with a S/T Maggette in it though.

But i can see them being very interested in Brandon Bass now.

Bass, Stack, Jones, S/T George for S/T Maggette, TT

Damp/Diop(MLE)
Dirk/TT/Pops
Howard/Reyshawn
Maggette/Terry/Foster
Kidd/Terry/Barea

Still rather have Vince personally, but this is a much improved and balanced roster.

If we can get James Jones for SF this team is destined for greatness...

I still think Bass, Stack and Wright would be a decent offer for Maggette and Thomas.

I'm not a big TT fan but the guy does have some talent and would be fine as a backup for Dirk.

Kidd/Terry
Maggette/Jones/Foster
Howard/George/R.Terry
Dirk/Thomas
Damp/Diop?

That would be about the only move this team would need to make, other than signing a backup center, to become a serious contender again.

We wont get him though.

Right now it looks like the Clippers will let Maggette and Livingston walk so they have enough cap space to sign Baron Davis and Elton Brand. Makes sense IMO. Baron is said to be good friends with Elton and to have strong ties to LA, while Elton is looking to stay a Clipper.

There arent many teams with cap space to sign Maggette for more than the MLE and teams that have the money arent interested in him. He said in the past he wants to go to Orlando. If he only gets the MLE, he will go there probably and chooses to play with Dwight over us.

I'm not sure he will put us over the top anyways. I want Vince here, period.

New idea for that: We send Bass to Atlanta for S/T Childress. Childress with fillers in exchange for Vince. Thoughts?
