Not Bad

Post#1 » by TheLSUMaverick » Thu Jul 3, 2008 9:04 pm

Everybody seems to be upset with this offseason so far.
So far the mavs seem to be signing Gerald Green and Desegana Diop.
We desperately needed help at the Center position and we got it
even though it came at a high price. Everybody is mad because we
gave up the full MLE for Diop but the truth of the matter is...Thats the
only way we were getting him. Diop was probably the best Center on the
Market this offseason and he will definitely solidify his position. So stop
complaining about the high price for Diop; Unfortunately, we just have to swallow
that pill and enjoy what he will do for our team. Yes he only
averaged a small amount of points and rebounds but expect this guy to flourish
with Kidd. Kidd seemed to make Damp a much better player so with Diops defense
and his youth i expect Kidd to heavily improve his offense by making the
game much easier.
As i read that Dallas was going to sign Green i got a huge smile on my face.
As soon as we lost in the playoffs we all said dallas needs to bring in some
extremely athletic youth who aren't scared to take the ball to the hoop.
This is exactly what we got with Green and even somewhat with Foster. Now i know
Foster won't take it to the hoop every single posetion and become a regular at
the free throw line but he will be amazing for situations where dirk draws double
teams.
On my other post i spoke of us needing a true point guard to back Kidd up.
If Green can flourish and become the player everyone hopes for then
he could take up the starting spot at the 2. This would allow Terry to
focus on nothing but the backup point. However, i still beleive we need
to get a backup point to be safe.
If we could somehow land one of these crazy trades i keep seeing on here then
great more power to the FO; however, i don't see it happening so lets be happy
with what we got.

We're all blind because the light gets switched on when the season starts.

Yeah, i figured it killed this thread just like latin killed my youth.

Anyways:
"The die is now cast", for non-english people like me "the dice is now cast"(or plural dices?), is the direct translation of the well known "Alea iacta est". The "non" just negates this quote. Should've translated it directly, sry.

This team doesn't deserve optimism any more.

If youre optimistic about the upcoming season after Diop and Green, then be prepared to be disappointed for the 4th straight year. I am not even going to get my hopes up for a team that cant even get out of the first round, yet refuses to make moves to improve themselves.

as long as we dont have a reliable SG I wont be too optimistic. too many times we got burned at that position.

Well everyone seems to be pesimistic unless we sign a big name player.
Need i remind you that we made the finals without a big move.
Everyone wants to have a big three now that Boston won it with theirs.
Truth of the matter is...we have our big three. Howard had a bad season
late last season but i think you can blame Avery for that. We have a good team.
We really do...the only problem is getting the right philosophy to play under and
we got that when we got Carlisle. We have taken some good steps and filled
some holes this offseason we are deffinetely headed in the right direction.
It would be nice to get Maggs but with Boston and SA giving him offers for the
MLE there is no reason to come here. Unless we can give him more which isn't happening.
So don't be mad just becuase we haven't signed a player of Kobe's quality at the 2
we are still a very good team.

At this point in Jason Kidd's career, he should NOT be part of any Big 3. He can be the facilitator to a big 3, but he is not.

it's not about copying boston. we simply cannot compete with dirk being the only starplayer on the team. josh howard is a star only in the first quarter and kidd is not a number 2 at this point in his career. look what kobe did in la. he had odom whom you could compare with howard. he never even got out of the first round. so dont fool yourself, this team is good if you want another 50 win season but definitely is not good enough to win the big thing. at least one other star player needs to come.

Kidd's vitally important to the team's success, but "Big 3" and various other titles ought to be reserved for scorers, IMO. Kidd's the guy who takes the pressure off the "Big 3" (which right now is Dirk, Josh, and JET) and facilitates the offense. He's got to be the #4 offensive option if we're going to win anything with this group; he can't be asked to score for us....that's not why he's here, and it's not what he does best.

Bottom line again this year is that the Mavs MUST find a way to improve their top 3 offensive options and find more consistency defensively. And the more guys we bring in who are completely inept on end of the floor (e.g., Diop), the worse we're going to be.

Well i'm not saying Kidd needs to score an ungodly amount of points every
night. But he makes the game easier for others. Dirk dosn't have to take these
wild shots anymore. What i am saying is we made the finals once with Howard
and Dirk. Howard will only get better expect big from him this seaon with
Carlisle at the helm.
Our 1 is pretty strong if terry backs Kidd up. Our 3 is Strong. Our 4 is very strong
with Dirk and Bass. And our 5 is very strong with Damp and now Diop. We all know
the hole is at the 2 but we do have a future. I think Green was a great signing and
Foster was a great pick this will make us very deep at the 2 but not powerfull.
I watched every Mavs game and Antoin Wright justdidn't impress me like he impressed
everyone else. Idk maybe i just didn't pay attention but i prefer to have someone like
Green there.
We can still win with this team we are very good. If we could land Maggs more power to
us but i doubt it happens. I beleive Green will develop to be very very good.
So stop underestimating your team and being pesimistic we are doing good this
offseason even though no Big Name has come at the 2.

^ Our 5 position is average at best, as it's terribly inconsistent, horrible offensively, and awful against the pick-and-roll. Couple that with a well-below mediocre SG position, and you're par or below at two positions. Frankly, our other three positions simply aren't good enough to make that up.

mavsfan41 you said it best yourself. our 1, 3 and 4 are all ok. the 5 is average but we have a glaring hole at the 2. not that we'd have a little below average player there, we have absolutely NOTHING there. nothing. greene? wright? foster? eddie jones?
as long as this weakness isnt being adressed by the FO the mavs wont get too far
