Norm talks about J-Ho/Stack for Artest/K.Thomas

Post#1 » by Realmavsman » Mon Jul 7, 2008 4:42 pm

On the Ticket this morning, Norm talked about making a trade for Artest.

He said to get it done would take Josh and Stack and we would have to take Kenny Thomas' bad contract as well to get Artest.

I am tempted by Artest. He has played for Carlisle and likes him. He could bring some toughness that this team desperately needs. BUT, taking on Kenny Thomas' 16 mil over the next two years is expensive and can we really count on Artest to act like a normal person.

There is only 5 months difference in age. Artest is clearly the better defender. Josh is a better rebounder. Also I am not in favor of keeping Stackhouse. I don't think he helps this team as much as he hurts them. So for me Kenny Thomas maybe could fill a role at backup SF.

Anyway, once I saw that Artest and J-Ho are about the same age I am leaning towards doing this. I am sure others here will say "Hell No!" but I might be tempted to shake things up and a well behaved Artest could make this team better.

I would not do Howard for Artest straight up, much less add a Stack/Kenny dump to it.

I'm not sure what I think of this deal. Part of me thinks it would be a good deal because I think the core is mentally shot, but I cant say I trust Artest more than Howard, and I'm not crazy about tacking on Kenny Thomas. I would probably say no because I think it doesn't change us enough to put us over the top.

I would like to know from JES what you think are some moves we should do or not do. I see you shooting down a lot of idea's and I may have just missed the one's you wanted but I haven't seen what you would like the FO to do. Not trying to start anything just geniunly want to know ?

There have been plenty of trades that I agreed with (for the most part, any trade that pointguard01 and Rand10 agreees with), I'm just not going to jump on board on a "downgrade to shake things up" attitude.

And getting a mentally insane player for one year before he bolts to NY this off-season is not an upgrade since I'd rather have Stack's contract than Kenny's contract after this year. If all the neurons in Artest's head actually functioned right AND he was not on an expiring contract, I would concider Howard/Artest swap, but still would not add an expiring SG (position of need) to an overpaid 15th man with a worse contract in Kenny to get that deal done.

The only way I would have this deal work is for Artest to accept an extension. I like the deal because it frees up for one more trade. Bass/George S&T or Jones S&T for ???? Maybe we go after Azikube from GS or another SG, but the bottom line is we go after someone that we can use and that can help us get past the 1st round.

Kidd/Terry/Barea
??????/Wright/Foster
Artest/Green/George or Jones
Dirk/Thomas/Pops
Damp/Diop/Sow
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

This trade would really depend how badly Dallas wants to get "rid" of Howard. Also, KT's contract would be very painful this year, but next year, any team with KT will have a HUGE expiring.

If we can get Azubuike and get Artest to sign an extension I would do this. It may be possible because I doubt the Knicks will sign Artest to any long term deal at this point.

If NVE stands for "No Value Exception" then you are dead on. I "STILL" rather have DJ Mbenga over Juwan just because of the dead salary DJ Mbenga left here when he was waived. At least Mbenga has been to the 2006 and 2008 finals..

Well if this trade goes down than the white flag goes up for this team! We al know that Crazy Ron wants to go to NY and last time I checked Dallas aint no NY.

I like Artest but don't see it as enough of an upgrade to make a difference. If we trade Howard, it would have to be for more of an upgrade.

I'd love to see the 2 play together with Kidd and Dirk.

Bass, Stack, Wright, and Jones for Artest and KT would be something that I would be very interested in.

The Mavs need something to sweeten the deal. Maybe a Brad Miller-Damp swap would get it done.
