Ron Artest Talk

All Ron Artest topics will be merged to this one at some point. HMFFL

The talk here continues to be about the future of Ron Artest. Dallas reportedly has had internal discussions about the Kings' mercurial power forward and may be willing to part with its own enigmatic forward, Josh Howard, to get him. The Lakers -- who have dangled Lamar Odom -- continue to be regarded as the favorites, with their willingness to swallow the remaining two years and $16.5 million of Kenny Thomas' contract considered the only holdup.

I realize that this has come up before but this is the first time that I have seen this in print. Sounds like the Mavs would have to swallow Kenny Thomas' contract to make it happen.

As I stated before I would be in favor of this even if it costs us Howard because I think Artest provides the kind of hard nosed play that we need. I love J-Ho but I just don't think this team as currently arranged will do anything other than a first round loss. I see Artest as an upgrade even if it is a small one.

If Josh is traded for Artest, we need Garcia or Salmons to be part of the deal.
Of course, we'd take Kenny Thomas for sure.

I think to do that you would have to toss in Bass going to Sac.

I was thinking the same thing. I was also thinking they would want Bass in place of Jones, but I could be wrong.

Well, we've got a surpise in SL in Rhodes. If it is the case, we can sign Pops or Rhodes.
Actually, he's a little bit more efficiency than James Singleton. Not as foul prone as well.

I'm all for adding Artest without dealing Howard.

If Howard does get dealt it is back to my original frustration with the FO. If we weren't willing to trade DH and Howard for Kobe then why on Earth would we send away both of them for two inferior talents?

A Dirk and Kobe + fillers is a lot more appealing to me then Kidd, Dirk, Artest + Fillers.

Bass and Howard and Kenny Thomas????

LOL.....LUDICROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the Mavs do that, they deserve the nutcase and the lotto balls and tax dollars that will be all coming their way.

Artest is not even worth two of those. Maybe Howard. Maybe Bass. Maybe a Kenny dump, but not two of them and certainly not all three.

Personally, if Howard or Bass is included, I would not take back Kenny at all. If Kenny is a must, then Terry and Stack better be the trade chips.

Edit: BTW, I failed to write it, but I would not do Howard for Artest straight up and I think SI is talking out their arse.

Bass & Stack for Artest or forget it.

How much stock can you put into an article that labels Artest a power forward? Either the writer is clueless or it was an obvious typo that editors didn't catch--either way it doesn't bode too well for the legitimacy of such a rumor.

I think any deal with Artest includes Stack, Bass and fillers and Ron Artest & Kenny Thomas on the other end. Including Josh Howard is probably not part of the solution....

I think if we do a Josh trade straight up for Artest and Thomas than it is a bad deal for the Mavericks. Howard for Artest and Sheldon Williams would be pretty exciting.

This article was pretty cool so i thought i would share it with yall.
I am not for dealing Howard for Artest not one bit not at all BIG NOOO! Unless
our end of the deal ends up sweeter. But i mean seriousely if we deal howard
for Artest what do we get....The exact same hole at the 2 spot that we have now!!!
I think a deal envolving Bass Stack EJ maybe a S&T with someone and we could Get
Artest and if they really want to get rid of KT then we could work something out
to pick his contract up. We are gonna need a back up PF if we deal Bass anyways.
The deal is I think Howard can make the transition and play the 2 with ease. And
if we could do all this with keeping Terry...Don't know how possible that is but...We
would be AWESOME!!! I'm sorry yell at me all you want call me whatever but ill take
that line up over BOSTONS any day of the freaking week.
IDK how possible it is to make this happen but this would be our AWESOME line up:

Kidd/Terry/Barrea
Howard/Terry/Wright/Foster
Artest/Howard(Howard wont be here too often)/Green/Rhodes
Dirk/KT/Singleton
Damp/Diop/Sow

IDK if we'll be able to pull off a move like this so please...Elighten me with why this wont
work all let me know how much of a (Please Use More Appropriate Word) i am...Thank you.

My faith in the front office will be completely restored if they can convince Sacto to take Jones and Stack in return for Artest. Id rather have Artest staring at SG than J-Ho though if that deal were to happen. I think we would have to throw in our first round pick for this year to make the deal actually go through, but even then, LA's offer of Lamar Odom for Ron Artest might be more appetizing.

We are going to HAVE to give Brandon Bass to get Ron Artest. Im fine with that. Kenny Thomas can play 10-MPG backing up Dirk and even Artest is big enough to play some backup PF in small-ball lineups.

Stack/Bass/Filler for Artest/Thomas

G- Kidd (34) / Terry (14)
G- Howard (35) / Terry (13)
F- Artest (35) / Green (13)
F- Dirk (36) / Thomas (12)
C- Damp (26) / Diop (22)

I'd be confident with that heading into the season.

I don't know why you think we have to give up Brandon Bass to get Artest unless you are saying that we can do it without giving up Howard. I don't think there is any chance that we can get Artest without Howard.

I would however like to get Quincy Douby in the deal to fill the SG hole. Maybe something like:

Howard
Stackhouse
Bass

for

Artest
Thomas
Douby

I read a lot of posts about how to get Artest with some package of expiring contracts but I don't think that has any chance of being successful. I could potentially see the above trade working.

I like Douby and wanted the Mavs to draft him a couple of years ago. I think he could fill the SG role and I prefer him to Salmons.

The problem with that deal is that we do absolutely nothing to address our greatest needs. I don't see any trade with Sac including Howard and Artest that will make us any better unless there is a 3rd team involved. If we can't procure Artest for something other than Howard (or Dirk and Kidd), I don't want him on the team.

Howard+eddie+1st pick

or

Eddie+Stack+ 1st pick

for

KT+ Ronnie

Scenario 1:
They get 2 ready to play scorers and a first. Howard is young that can start and stack is an expiring that can start and play a big role.If all else fails they can trade all 3 with their pick to move up in the draft. They get KT's contract off their hands and have ready to play scorers.

Scenario 2:
They can waive stack and wait for eddie to expire while sactown can sign a big contract next year with a 1st from us and their pick Sacramento can move up in the draft. All while getting KT contract out of their hair(and into ours).

The lakes don't have that safety in their deal and we do.

Too slow, Kidd needs someone to run with. Also, most of shots come in the paint and you can't have him and Dirk down there. He doesn't have the ability to blow by anyone on offense. Yeah, he helps a lot on defense, but offensively, he doesn't fit in
