Kirilenko
I know, I'm not exactly crazy about the guy but I'm wondering if he would be a decent fit for what we need.
Not a great scorer, but a solid defender with some athleticism and size at the SF. That would allow us to move Howard to the 2.
What would it take to get him...or do we even want him?
Would Damp/Stack for Kirilenko/Collins cut it?
Kidd/Terry
Howard/Green
Kirilenko/Wright/George?
Dirk/Bass
Diop/Collins
I like the athletecism around Kidd with that lineup and it would be a solid defensive unit.

Re: Kirilenko
Utah doesn't do the deal simply cause Sloan cant stand Stack and Stack is always fighting with Utah players. Not to mention Utah is going to want talent back for Kirilenko and I dont think they are getting that back with a washed up Stack and an over paid avg. to below avg. center.

^I agree with all that + Utah doesnt want to make Dallas more talented or at least give us the chance to be.

Re: Kirilenko
Wow, I'm a little shocked because last season everyone thought AK47 was a waste.
I forgot about the Sloan/Stack thing and that does make sense, but I thought that team needed more interior defense which is something that Damp could definitely provide.
I thought Utah was looking to dump his salary. I know Damp isn't exactly dumping it but Stack would definitely be lowering it after next season.
AK47 is a decent player but is vastly overpaid with a bad contract which drops his value when attempting to match talent for talent. I don't see Utah getting equal or better talent if they trade him.
But you are both probably right because a team like Portland could offer LaFrentz (expiring) and Outlaw which would be an attractive offer.
Man, Oden/LMA/AK47/Roy/Bayless could be a lethal lineup this season if Portland would be willing to take on that contract. I've wondered the same if they would be willing to give up some youth for VC.

Re: Kirilenko
I would like to have AK on the team, but he has no real position on the court. he likes to play PF more than he likes SF. then we have howard who would have to play SG, while he is a natural SF.
plus I dont think utah would do that particular deal.
as you pointed out, that portland offer would look way more appealing

Actually, I think the Jazz would like Dampier, he can be useful as a defensive Center, and when his contract comes off the books it will be good. Stackhouse could be decent as the 6th or so option.

Re: Kirilenko
I doubt Utah deals with us, but Dampier could help them if the move the vastly over-rated Okur. The point about where AK would play is a valid point, but if we did that trade, I would concider downgrading Howard to Redd.
Diop / Bass
Dirk / Bass
AK47 / George?
Redd / Terry
Kidd / Terry
That lineup would at least contend, but still not win a title.

Re: Kirilenko
There are 3 things that I like about AK47, his defense, athleticism (with Kidd), and size at SF. There have been many discussion on this board about sandwiching Dirk between 2 good defenders (Dampier/Diop and Artest, Marion, Prince, etc..) and I think AK47 somewhat fits in that category. I hate his contract but the Mavs are going to have to take on risk like that if they want to improve and this may be an opportunity to upgrade without giving up Howard.
I agree with JES that we could then pursue a SG that can score using Howard as trade bait.

That is what I was thinking. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Utah that many people were saying needed to improve defensively in the paint or am I thinking of a different team?

Re: Kirilenko
I'm not saying I wouldn't do the deal because to get out of Damp's contract would be sweet plus I like how Kirilenko plays especially on D but I just dont think that Utah is so desperate to get help in the paint by trading away a very talented player (even with a bad contract) for a avg center (which is debatable) with a bad contract and for Stack when there is so much bad blood between the two.
I dont think Redd is a downgrade to Howard but regardless I think Milwakee is trying to contend in the east with the resigning of Bogut, and trading for Jefferson and having Jefferson basically makes trading for Howard pointless for them.

Re: Kirilenko
Utah could get a much better deal for AK47. Dampier and Stack are way overpaid and way past their primes.

Re: Kirilenko
Dampier is an average/below-average offensive player, but defensive he's good. With Deron Williams I could see him doing much better in Utah than he has in Dallas with Jason Terry. Dampier had some good games with Kidd, and that can be replicated in Utah. Stackhouse is overpriced, but he's off the books in a year, and I'd personally love to watch Kidd/Josh/AK47/Dirk/Diop out there, that's an actual good defensive line-up as long as Dirk and Josh can at least make an attempt.
Maybe we could even pry away one of their draft picks.

First off, I don't see Utah trading with us. Secondly, I don't see any trade working out or anything of interest for Utah to make a trade. (Unless it includes Dirk)

Why would they have any interest in Dirk Nowitzki? They already have a jumpshooting big man.

The point was that Dirk is probably the only high caliber player we have they would want. Even still, why would they not want Dirk? Do you really think just because they have Okur and Carlos Boozer (Which ever jumping shooting big your talking about) means they would pass?
