I wanted to get a wider response from Mavericks fans on this deal. Please reply in the linked thread, instead of this one. Thanks.

Dallas Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players: Nene Hilario, Allen Iverson, Marcus Banks, Stephen Jackson
Outgoing Players: Jerry Stackhouse, Jason Terry, Josh Howard, Erick Dampier
DAL absorbs salary and risk with Banks and Nene, but goes all out for a title.
Kidd, Iverson, Jackson, Nowitzki, Diop
Barea, Foster, Green, Bass, Nene

Denver Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players: Jason Terry, Erick Dampier, Al Harrington
Outgoing Players: Chucky Atkins, Nene Hilario, Allen Iverson
DEN get well under the luxury tax (cutting their current cap number by over $8mil), and add healthy depth up front. JET should allow JR to take over at SG, while maintaining much of what Iverson supplied.
Terry, Smith, Anthony, Martin, Dampier
Carter, Weems, Kleiza, Harrington, Andersen

Miami Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players: Jerry Stackhouse, Josh Howard, Chucky Atkins
Outgoing Players: Daequan Cook, Marcus Banks, Shawn Marion
MIA adds a more natural SF at an affordable price, plus two veterans whose contracts can come off the books next year (Stackhouse's is only partially guaranteed for '09-'10; Atkins' is completely un-guaranteed).
Chalmers, Wade, Howard, Beasley, Blount
Quinn, Stackhouse, Jones, Haslem, (Mourning)

Golden State Trade Breakdown
Incoming Players: Daequan Cook, Shawn Marion
Outgoing Players: Stephen Jackson, Al Harrington
GSW gives Nellie more shiny red toys. (The Warriors do the best here, and should expect to facilitate if DEN asks for extra value.)
Ellis, Azubuike, Maggette, Marion, Biedrins
Williams, Cook, Randolph, Wright, Turiaf

Iverson's playing style and mentality is the reason why he will never have a ring (just like Gilbert Arenas). Any team taking him has to accept that and I think Dallas wants to win now, so this trade, along with any other Iverson to Dallas trades, will never happen because Denver would want too much and AI has too much salary to match.

Knowing that, I'd rather have Terry as a backup than Iverson as a starter.

I'd rather have Howard than Jackson any way you want to analyze it.

Nene has terrible health issues his entire career and Dampier is over 30. Knowing that, I'd trather have the shorter contract, meaning Dampier by 2 years.

Banks just all out sucks....but so does Stack. Stack is at least at a position of need and a about 5 mil cheaper over the life of the contracts, meaning I'd rather have Stack over Banks.

Hummmmm
I guess that sums this up for me.

I agree with most of what you say JES but one thing that I do like about Iverson is the attention that he would take away from Dirk. Teams would have to find a way to stop that combo. As it stands now, all they need to worry about is finding a way to stop Dirk which obviously hasn't been too difficult in the last 2 PO series.

Iverson is actually the type of player (skills wise) that we need. We need a serious scoring threat which is something that nobody else on the roster seems to be...at least not when it counts. AI and Dirk might actually work out. Neither has had a sidekick of the caliber that they would have if they were on a team together.

I'm not an AI fan at all but lets face it, this team is desperate. At this point, I’d make that trade because there isn’t anything else out there and this current roster has no chance.

we definitely need that second star, only I dont think that iverson is the answer at this point in his career.

Nice pun, even if it was unintended!

He's coming off of his most efficient season IMO, and I think estimations of his decline are exaggerated. We could re-sign both Iverson and Kidd in the off-season (hopefully, both to twin deals of around $34mil over 3 years, with each of the 3rd years being team options), and have room to add another veteran to the cause.

Oh, and I wanted to see what people thought of my newer version of this deal, where we take Harrington, Belinelli and Perovic instead of Banks, and give a future 1st, Bass and Jones. Here it is:

Trade ID #4755161

And this is the thread:

3rd time's the Charm?

I really like the way the pairs of Kidd-Nowitzki, and Iverson-Jackson complement each other in playing style and attitude. Chemistry would be key, but I think the "yang" of AI and S-Jax and the "yin" of Dirk and Kidd would help in the postseason.

I thought the posters on this board had learned their lesson about building a team around offense and discarding defense. To me that is what this trade is all about. Josh and Damp are two of the best defensive players we have. I hate the thought of us trying to stop anybody after this trade.

A couple of years ago, Phoenix put together the best offense seen in the league for many years, and they never got over the hump. What makes us think that we can do it?

While I'm coming in late to this thread, to me, Catalyst put together a very nice trade. The thing is, we have 2 non-scorers at both ends of our roster. Having Iverson be the 2 first and backup 1 is a better option than with Terry. Why? Well while I'm not a big fan of Iverson's quantity over quality, you have to respect his ability to get to the hole, and put up numbers.

Our Defense consists of many steals in the backcourt with Kidd and Iverson, blocks and good defensive C play from Diop in the middle and Jackson providing the rest. Our Offense consists of AI penetrating the middle and taking the shot or kicking it out to Dirk/Jackson. I really think this trade would be one of the best scenarios to get us back to Championship Contender status. Also, it creates a team with a bunch of superstars that have gotten as close as you can to getting a title. Having 3 of those guys maybe makes the difference?

What's the status on Nene also? If he gets back on the court and looks similar to his past form this is a much better trade! We also become a team with more "attitude" which hopefully breaks the soft label.

I agree, itgotime. And as for Nene, word is he's been practicing in Denver all summer and is committed to keeping his weight in check and earning his paycheck. If he can stay healthy, yes, it's a big gain, but he's a risk/reward pickup. I'm counting on him being a supersub when it counts, though, in the postseason.
