The Mavericks still have confidence in forward Josh Howard despite some edgy offseason comments, according to The Star-Telegram.

"I know a lot of 20-somethings who have made mistakes, myself included," Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said. "The smart ones learn from the mistakes. Josh is smart. He has learned from all of this, and will continue to learn from it, and use it for motivation on and off the court."

Howard admitted earlier this summer that he smokes marijuana during the offseason.

"While others might have run away from responsibility when they get hit with negative media," Cuban wrote, "Josh not only followed through with all of his camps, he expanded the camps, increasing the number of scholarships [in his foundation]. In addition to the camps he has in Dallas and in Winston-Salem, in addition to his annual bowling tournament, this summer he added a charity softball game."

Hmmmmmmmmmm, what do y'all think?
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

Josh is 29, pushing 30. Not a "20 something year old"

He has low value right now so of course the team will say they have confidence in him, blah blah.

Couldn't disagree more. Josh is 100% 28 and not even thinking about 29 yet!

Oh your right because he's 28 it's all ok to quit on his team, publicly make it known he smokes out in the offseason, and act like jackass off the court. But man if he was 29, well, we would just let him have it. Give me a break you cant afford to be stupid off the court if your going to be stupid on it !

Mavs may have confidence in him but I know this Mav's fan is going to have to have his restored because I dont have much confidence in him to do the things this team needs.

Yup! Pinned that one right on the donkey's ass!

I'm not defending Howard. It's just that is value vs talent is so low right now that we don't need to add to the negative hysteria like claiming he is over the hill at age 28 by saying he is older than he really is and claiming he is "almost" 30 and not in his 20's. News for ya....for over the next 500 days, he not only is closer to the 20's than the 30's, but he actually IS in the 20's.

I wasn't trying to add to the "hysteria" nor imply that he is "over the hill" just that he is older than many people, especially non Mav fans think he is. I thought he was 29, my bad. Either way, he's close to 30.

when exactly did he quit on his team? he had a lousy series, doesn't mean he quit. He had a birthday party, doesn't mean he quit. Just means he sucked for a week and a half and he's immature. He never quit on the Mavs.

I doubt his value will go up after the team issue those statements.
Probably his fantasy value to fans will go up but not for true NBA GMs.
