Cuban's vow: I'll be there for Dallas Mavericks

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Oct 3, 2008 3:27 am

Cuban's job is to put the Mavericks in position to succeed. He concedes he hasn't done a good job of that lately and believes the team became too predictable under Johnson.

The beauty of sports, the beauty of having a team with Dirk Nowitzki still in his prime, is that the Mavericks get another crack at the ring. Cuban has substituted Carlisle for Johnson and Jason Kidd for Devin Harris. He's ready to go.

"Do I think we're a better team than the team that went to The Finals," Cuban asks. "Yeah.

"When you look at the struggles we had last year and the year before, it all came down to being able to zig when everyone knew we were going to zag. We just weren't able to do that. I think Jason puts us in better position to do that."

Any final thoughts on Johnson?

"Avery will learn for next time," Cuban says.

"It just was not going to work. Avery knew it was not going to work. I knew it was not going to work. Donnie [Nelson] knew it wasn't going to work. The team knew it wasn't going to work.

"It was an expensive change to make, but I tried to make the right decision."

This team is not better than the 2006 team. Cuban is smoking again!

Carslisle may give them new life, but this team, or any team with Kidd running the point and the most athletic guy being Green is going nowhere. Dirk-Harris...that worked. Kidd-Martin (pre-injury) that worked. Nash-Amare...that worked. Dirk-Kidd...that ain't gonna work.

How about we wait and see

If i remember correctly they didnt play do bad outscoring NO by 10 n the first quarter with Kidd running the show before Avery kicked in. Its simply not about a Dirk-Kidd combo, its about Kidd running the team and Dirk scoring as usual. I expect that Kidd makes everyone around him better, including Howard, and in this case we're better than 2006. Remember the SG from 2006 was Adrian Griffin, the teams around us got better.

It will be a great season

I didn't say we are not better than the 2007-2008 team. I said we were not better than the 2006 team. That statement in money in the bank. This team is NOT better than the 2006 team.

Yah, that is Cuban BS. By saying this team is better, he is putting all the blame of failure on Carlisle, and none on himself for making a stupid trade.

How do you know? This is virtually the same team as 2006 now except the Mavs have Kidd instead of Harris and they don't have Griffin starting.

Because Kidd on the court instead of Harris is no where close to "virtually the same team." It is a totally different team! Griffin was a nobody and I was glad to see him sign with you guys after he left us. Also remember, the 2006 I am refering to is half the season of the 67 win season in which Griffin was not on our team.

You don't take a PG known for being a glory hog (too many dump passes that end up being turnovers) and rebounding to the best rebounding team in the league then strip a player that did all the things we actually needed him to do and expect to be better.

Its as simple as that. I argued that piont before the trade and nothing has changed. Kidd may have the better stats (arguable), more triple-doubles (which is all that some here cared about and saying Kidd >>>>> Harris because he has not had one yet) and a better past, but Kidd's strength and future, in no way, is what this team needed.

No way this team is better than the 2006 team. Im anxious to see how the coaching change affects this team, but the fact is that we are much older and less talented than we were in the 05-06 season, and the rest of the west has continued to make moves that actually improve their team.
