Hey guys, Pacers fan here. Just thought I would give y'all a heads up:
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a ... 10033/1088The Indiana Pacers have traded swingman Shawne Williams to Dallas, two people with knowledge of the situation said today.
The Pacers will receive two second-round picks and cash.
Williams averaged 6.7 points in two seasons with the Pacers, but several off-court incidents put the franchise in a bad light and made him expendable.
In February, a man wanted for murder in Memphis, Tenn., was arrested after leaving Williams' home. The suspect, Gary Ian Bohannon, 20, was driving Williams' truck when police pulled him over.
Before last season, team president Larry Bird suspended Williams for three games after the player was arrested following a traffic stop.
Police said they found a gun and marijuana in Williams' car. Police linked both to two passengers, Roosevelt Rollins and Roderick Helton, both from Memphis, where Williams grew up and played college basketball.
The Pacers selected Williams with the 17th overall pick in the 2006 draft.
Shawne is a solid player. You guys won this trade, no doubt.

Seems like the perfect BUDdy for Josh Howard!!!
I always liked the guy, but his time in the court was inconsistent with the Pacers.... He is a leaner and more athletic Brandon Bass. My guess is they will be buying out Jones and trading Stack for a future pick... Lets see how it goes down, because the roster is now extremely loaded and they have to let go some players by now. Although this may be a move to include him in a package with Stack to get a big.... We'll see! Thanks for the info!

I'm anxious too to see the roster at the end of the month, we're looking good so far through the first two games of pre-season; I still think we are missing that one piece though that all the other contenders have.

I think its a good trade. We desperately need young talent and we really didnt lose too much in the deal. Its good to know that the front office is at least trying to get deals made. If Eddie Jones gets waived, then its been a good week for the front office.

Eddie Jones was part of the trade according to Hoopshype

Jones was worthless to us (well I guess not). Im not too sure that Shawne Williams is what we needed to put around J Ho, but at least he is young and athletic and doesnt come with a huge price tag. If we get a pick out of it, even a second rounder to trade later, it would be a great trade.
Now we just need to dump Stackhouse and Dampier for a younger, more athletic PG and C.

If they can turn EJ into this then imagine what we could get for Stack. We definitely got the better of Indianna and I have been wanting a bigger SF for a long time. He can score too. Not sure what his D is like but athletic 6'9" players usually play decent D.

Yeah, it's Shawne for Eddie Jones, the cash to buy out Eddie Jones ($1.8 million), and 2 2nd round picks.
Seems like a win/win/win trade for all involved. The Pacers move the knucklehead Shawne Williams and continue to distance themselves further from the Knucklehead mentality that was plaguing us, while also getting 2 2nd round picks that might be useful in helping to dump Tinsley and continuing the process.
Dallas gets a very talented tweener SF/PF in Shawne that can hit the 3 with consistency, and really would be a great talent in the league if he could just keep his head in the game.
Plus, Shawne now gets a chance to show what he can do while getting that much further from Memphis, and also that much further from Danny Granger and MIke Dunleavy, and the future SG/SF in Brandon Rush, a situation that never allowed Shawne to develop.
Good trade for all involved.

Shawne Williams may have some minor ( but really self-inflicted and stupid ) PR issues ( although not as high as it is for Josh Howards ), but he still has some potential....the problem was that he was stuck behind Granger and Dunleavy.
He has a Team Option next season...so if he doesn't work out for you guys...you can cut him next season. At worst....this is a low-cost/high reward type trade for the Mavs.

Good trade for us and I'm glad Eddie Jones is gone. Shawne should get the opportunity to prove what he can do and we can consider his future with the team as the season progresses. I'm seeing a team option for next season followed by a player option. We acquire more size and a player that does have range.

He wasnt a horrible selection. He will be the latest in a long line of players to better themseleves after elaving.
JO will blossom in Toronto
Williams will get time in Dallas
Tinsley will get better wherever he goes.
What we couldnt get another white player in return?
Im too close to actually giving up
Pathetic
Yes all Pacers will be nice boys , with average to below average talent, Yeah get a bunch of good guys who are marginal at best, we will stink and everybody will come running back to the Conseco
This sucks

"I think the Carmel police were kind of like following him around constantly, almost harassing him," Walters said. "So I think it [the trade] is an opportunity for him to get away from that type of thing as well, because I think he was being unduly singled out a little bit."
Nice job IndanKKKa

Low risk high reward trades are always welcomed by me. Especially after the last trade the Mavs made.

I disagree.
Eddie was one of our top two perimeter defenders (the other being George). While he's indeed old and has a spotty jump shot, you could always count on him to D up pretty well and find guys on offense. He's far from "worthless".

I like this for Dallas.
What have we done with our last two 2nd round picks? RayShawn Terry and Shane Foster both are concidered a steal for where we drafted them and both end up in Europe until furhter notice.
So, if Dallas gives up it's 2009 & 2010 2nd rounders along with Eddie Jones who has a 98% chance of being bought out (even in Dallas) with the cash sent in the deal for someone who could potentially produce now, then I like it. Even further, if he ends up not being worth his money, he does have a TO and qualifying offer the next 2 years.
Plus this lower's our payroll by $400K and lux tax by $400K, so this trade really comes down to:
Williams for Jones + $1.0 mil + two 2nd round picks (hopefully 50+ in the draft).

Yeah, it seems like a good deal all around. Dallas gets a talented but knucklehead player in Williams. And Indy gets away of the "bad" player mentality...(Next up, Tinsley)
A Bass/Williams trio can be very solid IMO. If everything pans out.
