Defense first

If 6-foot-7 Antoine Wright wins the starting job at shooting guard, he knows he will win it with defense. Assignments in the Western Conference are tough, starting with Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady. Wright, however, smiled and said don’t call him a "Kobe Stopper" just yet.

"Really, that’s going to be a team type of thing," Wright said. "You can’t just expect because I’m the same height as these guys that I’m going to slow them down. But it does help to have a guy of similar size, similar build to disrupt those guys a little bit better."

I dont know if the rest of you are as excited about Wright as I am.

I think a young, athletic, big SG is perfect for this team. Will he be an all star? No. Not even close. But if he can average 10 or 12 ppg, just enough to keep opposing defenses honest, and play a little D himself, it will be a success.

It is pretty exciting seeing JHo and Wright on the fast break with Kidd bringing the ball up. It seems that we are making small moves (Green, Williams) that get us younger and more athletic. Hopefully, we can find a way to move Stack for a young, athletic backup PG. Doesn't memphis have like 5 on their roster?

My mavs fan son has asked me what I expect out of Wright. My response was Marquis Daniels pre-current contract. 10-12 pts/game, good d, and fill the missing role, that would take the cake. Now, with Williams, that may put Howard in the 2 position if Williams can fill the 3 role.

Im hoping Wright can bring some energy onto the court and turn into a missing piece like Adrian Griffin or Nick Van Exel were in the past for the Mavericks... As far as my expectations go- I am hoping for around 12 ppg

I don't know, "pre-huge contract" Daniels was IMO on the level of LeBron-Melo-Wade at the time. He was putting up near triple-double numbers before halftime and did almost everything.

I think a better comparison would be a younger version of last year's Eddie Jones.

Solid defense with average offense would be nice anything more than that would be bonus.

If he does not shoot 2-10, he would be an immediate upgrade to Stackhouse!

what he said.
after years of playing the likes of jones, stack and company at SG any change is welcome. wright has the height to compete with the stronger 2guards, he plays nice defense and if he brings somewhat of a decent offensive game (not stack-like 23%-shooting) he is a big positive on this mavs team.
