Webber: "Dallas is the weakest team I ever played against!"

Post#1 » by killermamba » Fri Oct 31, 2008 6:11 am

On tonight's INSIDE THE NBA post game show;

"Ron didn't deserve that technical, but I'm not surprised that no one from Dallas didn't do anything. When I played, I honestly thought that this was the weakest team in the NBA. We looked at Dallas as just having fun and messing around with them. These guys were too scared to play" - Webber

Chris Webber is not one to talk about weak players, especially when he cant do anything in clutch time to save his life

I somehow agree that Chris Webber is the last person to say something in the lines of "team x is the weakest team to ever play" but you have to admit that back in the days when Finley, Dirk and Nash were playing in Dallas while Nelson was the coach it seemed like the Kings had Dallas' number - especially come postseason.

Thats simply the stigma of our star player being European. Especially when had soft Steve Nash, and choir boy Finley.

But if anything Dirk is was and still is the toughest among that bunch. Barkley and Webber are just old has beens without rings who think Stereotypes from when they were players must still apply, when the only player left on these Mavs from their era is Dirk. Good job fellas, here is another Emmy

Webber is a joke. At least Dirk and the Mavs got to the finals and they had to beat a tough Phoenix team and a defending champion team in San Antonio in a game 7 in their place. I dont want to hear anymore about how Dallas is weak especially from a guy who didn't elevate his team to a championship. Webber was a good player but I'm sick of listening to a journey man player try to tell all of us that Dallas is or was weak. TNT was just fine with Ernie, Kenny, & Barkley why bring this big bag of nothing onto the broadcast and while we are at it can they get rid of Reggie Miller I got so tired of hearing him on his knees going on about Artest !

Mavs fan here, I agree that Webber shouldn't be saying things about weak anything, but the truth about players thoughts playing us cannot be disputed. We watched as David West tapped on Dirk's chin and Dirk did nothing. How can any self respecting, win-it-all competitor ever let that go?

It's time to start looking into the blow up (not necessarily acting on it, but changing our thought process that way). I've been against it since the Kidd trade cause of the 2010 pick going to NJ. The best we can hope for with this team is a second round exit, and that's being quite optimistic. We will make the playoffs with this team cause there is so much talent here that we will out talent the lower tiered teams. When it comes to the playoffs though, we aren't so talented that we can overcome our inability to be a win at all costs team.

Dirk can be a top player on a "bad boys" style team because he has his teammates sticking up for him. He cannot, however, be what we need him to be with this group. Not getting Artest this offseason was our huge mistake.

Chris Webber is/was as soft as a baby's behind. He would have fit right in with the Nellie Mavs, and choke like he knows how to do.

If weak means getting to the finals over never getting there, I'll take weak everytime and twice on Sundays.

Also to the thread starter- current players view Mavs as a joke...yeah just like 90% of the current players in the league are in sub 500 teams that haven't done sh*t. I would re-evaluate that statement if I were you, but don't let unoriginality and stupidity get in your way.

I somewhat agree with Webber's sentiments (about Dallas being soft) but the example you cited is a terrible one. Dirk did the right thing by keeping his temper and ego in check in favor of a much bigger goal... which they didn't come close to getting, but you see my point.

I actually applaud him for not caving in to the whims of millions of insecure men who need to prove their manhood by lashing out childishly. Tapping someone on the cheek (or wrapping your legs on someone's crotch after a dunk like in the case of Swift) does not make one a "tough guy", so why bother? By the end of the day you'll walk off knowing that you've accomplished far more than these guys will ever do for the rest of their careers.

Screw that man, you can retaliate without throwing a punch. Slapping his hand away and pointing in his face while giving it back to him is a perfectly good example of standing up for yourself and what should and could have happened. Point is, West believes he has the right to do that to Dirk, and you know what? The NBA believes it too because nothing happened to West as a response. That's how weak the Mavs are in the eyes of everyone.

The other way of sticking up for yourself is giving back to them on the court like Bird used to do. Dirk can't even do that when someone intimidates him like that.

actually dirk did do it, just look back to our finals run when tim thomas blew that kiss toward dirk, he then scored like 21 straight points and over 50 points in the game, single reason why we won the game

Great, now start being consistent with it and you'll find people don't pick on you much anymore, or call you soft. Doing something a couple times after a history of doing the opposite does not change a mindset.

You're missing my point then because the crux of my argument is that only insecure males feel the need to retaliate and feel violated when someone does that to them. Someone touched your face? Big deal.

They may think that doing things like that makes them all tough and manly in the oh-so highly important eyes of their equally important homies (whose greatest accomplishments in life are hocking tin foil and bagging groceries) but to me, I'm silently laughing to myself and muttering "seriously?"

This isn't junior high anymore, David West's of the world.

Laugh all you want at them, sports is a macho world full of competitive guys looking for any way to chink your armor. They smell blood with Dirk, and any amount of your laughing at them isn't going to change that. Dirk is not soft in the sense of getting hurt, he's proven he can take an injury and keep going. He's soft in the sense that he's easily intimidated.

He's the leader of the team, so the team takes on that overall value in the eyes of those playing against them.
