I see that Jason Kidd is playing 35+ minutes a game. Obviously with freaking mascot JJ Barea backing him up they have no choice but to play Kidd more minutes.
I think in the long run this will hurt the team. He is too old to be playing those sorts of minutes. Especially at PG which is a very demanding position. Barea just can not be counted on. He looks decent one game and then the next he can't shoot and get burned repeatedly.
We have got to address the backup PG position. I don't know what is realistically available but I would either look to getting one of Memphis' 3 young PGs or maybe even look to get Marbury. I don't like him but he better than what we have.
Any other ideas on how to solve the backup PG position? (And please don't say Stackhouse)

Re: Is J-Kidd playing too many minutes?
We can address the PG situation very easily. Very simple. And without trading anyone.
PG: Kidd + Terry = 48
SG: Green + Wright = 48
SF: Howard + Williams + George + Maybe Bass = 48
PF: Dirk + Bass = 48
C: Dampier + Diop + Dirk* = 48
*because when we need offense or the FT shooters to protect the lead, Dirk + Bass + Howard + SG + PG should be in
PG: Kidd + Terry = 48
SG: Green + Wright = 48
SF: Howard + Williams + George + Maybe Bass = 48
PF: Dirk + Bass = 48
C: Dampier + Diop + Dirk* = 48

ive followed 3 games on the gametracker and only have seen the houston game, it seems as if our team really struggles when our 2nd team offense is out there and when kidd goes out

The numbers suggest Kidd has a similar impact offensively to Josh, but it just seems SO much worse when Kidd's on the bench.

Usually the case in many (if not all) of Kidd's teams.

Re: Is J-Kidd playing too many minutes?
That's the reason I never really liked a 1-4 offense. Your PG is usually your best player and if your best player / leader goes down or has an off-night your team is screwed. Kidd is not our best player, but he is the leader and the quartedback. Iverson / Arenas type players are all of the above, thus the reason why I don't like them and never want to see them on my team. I'd much rather have a 2-3 offense like Manu-Parker or Roy-Blake or Kobe-Fisher and even to some extent Harris-Terry (though they are too short together). All of those teams can still function if the PG goes down.
Unless we get a backup PG very similar to Kidd, we are screwed when he is on the bench or if he goes down(likelyhood is higher as they get older). Ths is why I stress, they NEED to play Terry at PG more often. He is our next best option, but playes a different style. The team needs to learn how to play when it's Terry's team instead of Kidd's team both for limiting Kidd's minutes and in prepration of worst case scenario incase something happens during the minutes he does play.
I would really like to see Kidd get 30 MPG and Terry get 18 MPG at the point. Terry may get a few more minutes at SG, but hopefully not much more.

The problem with this is that Terry has been terrible at PG. That is exactly what they have been trying. I also thought Terry at backup PG would be the best solution however everytime I watch a lineup with Terry at PG, the offense struggles. I no longer believe that Terry is a viable option at that position. In fact it looks like Terry may move to starting SG spot. He clearly is not been good as PG on the 2nd team.
I don't think we have to get a PG very similar to Kidd to be successful. I think what we need is a real NBA PG and that is all. Terry is not really a PG and JJ Barea is not really an NBA player. Barea is fine only as an emergency 3rd string PG.
I think that backup PG is the most important position that this team should try to find. Any of the 3 young Memphis PGs would be fine. Personally I would like to find a defensive minded guy who would take care of the ball. I would be willing to give up someone like Bass to get that player.

Re: Is J-Kidd playing too many minutes?
Terry has not played PG more than 12 min total this year. And this year, our team looked ugly when Stack was in instead of Howard and when Barea was in instead of Kidd.
Last year, our team played better with Terry than they did with Kidd running the point (I'm assuming because of no training camp)
What time frame are you talking about?
And Terry is better at the point than Lowry and Crittenton and I'll etch that one in stone.
And I most definatly would not give up Bass for a Watson, Daniels type defensive PG. Especially when terry plays better at the POINT than he does at the 2 GUARD.
According to 82 games, the 12 minutes Terry played the point this year was with Stackhouse. That, my friend, is the problem; not, Terry.

Barea did not even play against Houston. When Kidd went out it was Terry at PG. Also I seem to remember that Terry was playing PG quite a bit in preseason and I think he was not doing well. I think Terry is better at SG. Last game against S.A. reiterated that point. I think this team would be better to find a different backup PG and even if it would cost us Bass to do it.
Anyway I would prefer to keep Terry at SG and get us a new PG. And I really like Lowry, I would definitely trade Bass for him.

I edited my last post.
The problem is Terry/Stack backcourt....not Terry. Waive Stack and we will not need to find another PG.

Really have no choice and I think J-Kidd is a player who can play when he is older.
