Green doing his Howard imitation

Post#1 » by Realmavsman » Wed Nov 12, 2008 3:15 pm

Has only one else noticed that in the last two games that Gerald Green is doing the same disappearing act as Howard does every game? I watch the first quarter of the games and Gerald Green looks like a star. This is the same thing that Josh Howard does game after game. Green had 11 pts in the first quarter against the Clippers then ended with 13. He did rebound nicely throughout that game but he disappeared offensively.

Against the Lakers last night I think he had 9 pts in the first 6 minutes and ended with 17. What it is about the SF position on this team. Is it that the team changes the offense? I just don't understand why both those guys look so good in the first quarter but disappear for most of the rest of the game.

First of all Green was supposed to be a bit player coming off the bench and any production at all is supposed to be a bonus.

Secondly Howard is getting paid a whole lot more than Green so there's no excuse for Howard because he's supposed to show up.

Lastly we didn't lose either one of those games because of Green and if Green is the reason why we lost then this team has more problems than we could even begin to think.

Lets give Green more than 2 starts (which I think he's played pretty well overall) to judge if he is tanking consitently in the 4th like Howard has proven time and time again.

I think you have to look at PT during those times as well. For example, Stackhouse got a lot (rightfully so, finally) in the 4th Quarter. All players go through hot streaks during games. I think a quick 9 pts and finishing with 17 is a great game for most players, especially when they are the 4th or 5th option on offense.

Howard is the 1st or 2nd option every time and settles for jump shots down the stretch. This is his problem.

Players of the game were definitely Kidd, Green, Damp and Stack. Everyone else sucked. Im still a huge fan of his, but if Dirk is going to call out the team he needs to show up at the next game.

That being said, we just lead for three quarters playing against the best team in the world, all without our second best player. If we can get that type of production out of Green, Damp and Stack every game, we could be one of the best teams in the L.

It's not really Green's fault, they simply go to the more experienced guys late in the game.

Has anyone noticed Dirk's appearing act because he is, like, not-existant in the 1st quarter? I guess it takes time to warm up that big German diesel tank. Gasoline engines like Howard can't pull the load as far or long as the diesel can. What I would like to see is some Green E-85 refilled in the tank after the Gasoline engine disappears.
