I was just watching the game last night and i heard Mark Followill say that when Dirk did his off-balanced fadeaway off one foot it was Karl Malone's shot he perfected..So this brought me to ask.. Who will be known as the better player when its all said and done, Dirk Nowitzki or Karl Malone?

Dirk Nowitzki's Accomplishments:
Seven-time NBA All-Star, Seven-time All-NBA, Three-time All-NBA First Team, 2002 World Championships MVP, 2005 EuroBasket MVP, 2006 All-Star Three-Point Shootout Champion, 2007 NBA Most Valuable Player.

Karl Malone's Accomplishments:
1989 Most Valuable Player of the NBA All-Star game, 1993 co-Most Valuable Player of the NBA All-Star game, 1996 Selected as one of the fifty greatest players in NBA history, 1997 Most Valuable Player, 1999 Most Valuable Player. Played in the NBA All-Star game twelve times.

They both led their teams to the NBA Finals and both lost so...

What do you think? Are they comparable.

In Dallas, Dirk
In the rest of the USA, Malone.

I cant stand Karl Malone but I think you would have to say Malone, Dirk is a greatness type of player but I think he will have to do more to pass the mailman.

Malone is the greatest PF of all time.

People dont like Dirk, so Malone will be remembered more by America

I'd say Tim Duncan has overtaken him on that. Unless of course, you are going to classify Duncan as really a center.

malone is my #2 PF, dirk's top 10 but it'll be hard for most to vault him ahead of guys like KG or barkley among others (bob mcadoo, elvin hayes, bob pettit, even kevin mchale)

Pretty much. Malone is concensus #1 or #2 (MAYBE a #3 on very few individuals list) on all-time PF. All you have to do is look at where Dirk is on all-time rankings in scoring/rebounds to realize he falls short of the stature that the Mailman has.
