Stackhouse, agent exploring options

http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/archives ... tions.htmlJerry Stackhouse remains loyal to the Mavericks. But his belief in himself and his competitive nature have led him to a possible crossroads as he and his agent are exploring options for a possible departure from the Mavericks, including a buyout and trade scenarios that might make sense.
Stackhouse said after practice today that he's not bitter, nor is he upset that the direction of the Mavericks left him on the inactive list for Sunday's game at New York. He simply feels like he has too much good basketball left to be in that role.
"The team is always going to protect themselves, so I can't force their hand to do anything,'' Stackhouse said. "I don't really know all the options right now. I talked to Jeff (Schwartz, his agent) yesterday and we've had dialogue over the last few weeks and it's like we were going to keep playing it out. And it's to the point now where it's time to start researching some things and see if there are some other possibilities that make more sense for me right now.''
There are a lot more details and we'll bring them to you as soon as possible.
I wouldn't mind a buy out at all.

Best news I've heard in quite some time. Our best transaction since signing Brandon Bass would be waiving Stack!!! A buyout where there is no cap hit next year would be great!
And LOL at this
"He simply feels like he has too much good basketball left to be in that role."

IDK if this is good news, our FO could now try to trade him in an attempt to make the team better i.e. expiring and veteran help for bad contract with upside.
I even think Stack could play good basketball, but that would require him to not be a blackhole on offense. I think he has too much pride to change his game that isnt working after he lost another step or two.
Best case is we trade him for a real expiring.

Was McDyess ever officially bougght out? I never saw anything official, but I think he is in the "waiting 30 dyas to return to Detroit but will act like I'm interested in other teams so Stern won't fine Detroit & Denver" phase.
Because if not, and we shave a year off of Denver's buyout, I would love to do a follow-up trade of Bass-Diop for Milicic (better offense & expires in 2010)
Dampier - Milicic
Nowitzki - McDyess - Singleton
Howard - George - Williams
Green - Wright
Kidd - Terry - Barea

I believe a buyout has been agreed upon, but probably not official due to league office being closed on weekends.

Who could we sign or trade for that would be worth it...I'd rather have Stack than nothing cause when he's good hes awesome but when he's bad we just need to take him out

Gotta give him credit for being professional about this though.

Stackhouse is expendable... Unfortunately a trade partner for his "services" is probably going to be harder to find

SGs who can defend and shoot, and in their 20s are a commodity in the NBA. You'll find guys who can shoot, guys who can defend, but rarely one who can do both equally well.

My biggest worry is the wrong trade. Here is what I would like to see in a Stack trade
1) Filler in a bigger trade (i.e. Stack, Terry, George for Marbury)
2) Good to fair long term salary dump (i.e. Hinrich, Maggette) though I don't like this option too much and would not do it if another key piece such as Bass was added.
3) Fair to decent 2 year upgrade (i.e. Etan Thomas, Harrington vis 3 way where Harrington does not end up in Dallas, Milicic, etc.)
4) Buy out for less than half his contract like the $13.6 mil McDyess did when he settled for $6 mil.
What I definatly don't want is a Stack for for 3+ year deals that only make our team marginally, if at all better such as Tinsley or Crawford.

I like Stack, but if he would have contributed something on the court over the last 2 years he wouldn't be in this situation

jesus, I waited for this ever since he started with his 1-8 shooting nights.
it would be perfect if we could get some kind of deal done, just like JES described above. but it may be hard to find a willing trading partner.

His production has been going down steadily over the years. I remember when MJ traded Rip for him. What a terrible trade. I seem to recall that Stackhouse didn't want to play with Jordan either.
If the Mavs can they should buy him out.

I'd be all for buying Stack out for half his guaranteed contract with all cap hit being this year, but if he wants like 80%, we should just keep him until post-Dec 15th trades are available.

Who wants his washed up a$$. I hope he never sets foot on the floor as a maverick ever again. If we can find a deal we need to do it because once his salary is gone so is the ability to use it for salary matching purposes, to make a lesser paid player tradeable for a player we may want that is paid more. That is about all I value him for.

he should not take a 50% buyout. He is acting a fool, but he is not stupid.
