Bizarre lineup win in a easy fashion

Post#1 » by Darren » Thu Nov 20, 2008 2:57 pm

Toronto Raptors start Bargnani with JO and Bosh. And the win in a real wild fashion.
It means Bargnani plays SG on offense, and PF/SF in defense. It makes a difference for them.

Can we borrow some ideas from the innovation?

Matchups exceptions may allow it, but the rule is "no"

Not really.

Are you suggesting we play Dirk at SF, with Bass and Damp up front and Howard sliding to SG? Several problems with that, and why it works for Toronto.

First, Bosh and JO are good help defenders as well as man defenders. They can cover ground, and help out on Bargnani, Calderon and other weaker perimeter guys they have. The Mavs have none of that.

Dampier and Diop will foul out before the first half is over trying to cover for Dallas' perimeter mismatches. JO and Bosh are also very good rebounders, something you can't say for Damp/Diop/Bass (at least not consistently).

Then to top it all off, Bargs/JO/Bosh can all punish you offensively. Only Dirk and sometimes Bass can do that. Damp and Diop won't take advantage much of match-ups.
