his jumpers are falling. He seems to playing better without JHo. I doubt he will continue to score in the 20s on 50something % shooting.

Now would be a good time to trade him. I have a thread going on the trade forum seeing what teams would offer for Terry and right now....though it is only 1 Philly fan and some 3rd party fans....they would be willing to do

1) Terry for Miller straight up
If Dallas can sign Marbury post-buyout, we would look like this:
Kidd - Miller - Barea
Marbury - Wright - Green
Howard - Williams - George/Stack
Nowitzki - Bass - Singleton
Dampier - Diop

2) Dalembert-Green for Terry-Diop trade. The Miller one clears much more space, but Sammy-D-Green one nets about the same $$ in 2010, but gives us better pieces to build around or attract FA's with.

Terry's always been a streaky shooter, and he always will be. But I've been impressed by the fact that he's taking the ball to the hole more this season. 78% jumpers this season versus 84% last year, 85% the year before, and 84% the year before that. Obviously, JET's still a jumpshooter, but at least it's an improvement.


In a related note, check out where the Mavs rank in terms of shot selection: 48% of their FGAs are 2-point jumpers (3rd highest percentage in the league), 21% are 3-point jumpshots (t14th), and 30% are inside shots (24th). The shooting percentages? 42% on 2-pointers (5th), 31% on 3-pointers (26th), and 56% on inside shots (21st). Look at it this way, if the Mavs make 42/100 jumpers, that's 84 points. 31/100 three-pointers, on the other hand, is 93 points. 56/100 inside shots is 112 points. Note too that inside shots often yield FTAs.

Here's the point: the Mavs are one of the best teams in the league at the worst-valued shot in the league (the 2-point jumper). In fact, the league averages on FG% are only separated by 3% (38% on 2-point jumpers, and 35% on 3-point jumpers). On the flip side, the Mavs are very mediocre on the high-value shots (3-pointers and inside shots).

Individual numbers for our top 4 (percentage of overall attempts/FG% on those attempts)

Dirk - 3-pointers (12% attempts/40% success); 2-pointers (70%/44%); inside (16%/47%)
Josh - 3-pointers (15% attempts/25% success); 2-pointers (54%/45%); inside (29%/60%)
Kidd - 3-pointers (49% attempts/43% success); 2-pointers (28%/45%); inside (22%/58%)
JET - 3-pointers (29% attempts/31% success); 2-pointers (49%/44%); inside (21%/67%)

To me, it's fairly obvious we need to shoot more 3s and take the ball inside more. Aside from Dirk, every one of those guys can score a high percentage inside, and all but Josh would be better off shooting 3-point jumpers than 2-point jumpers.


BTW, we're actually very good defending those high-value shots. We're 4th-best in the league in opponents' 3-point FG% and inside shot percentage.
