Devin Harris franchise player

I watch the Nets all the time and this kid just keeps getting better and better. I think he's franchise level talent. It's got to be tough knowing you had a player who could've taken this ship to another level and he's signed long term

He made those steps this season as he was never able to put it all together for us.

Its not like he exploded last year for the Nets either, his role grew a lot and his game advanced with the expectations.

I'm glad he is finally becoming the player he is capable of, its a pleasure to watch him no doubt. After tonights game vs Phx he has to be a fans favourite. He and Vince are scary.

To me this has become another knock on Avery quickly, how can hold a player back this long. What a complete joke of a coach Avery was!

Sore topic for mavs fans huh? Those things happen. I appreciate an organization that's aggressive like the Mavs. They will be back in a year or two.

Yeah, well, the Mavs stole Antoine Wright from the Nets... So take that.. :naaa:

And no Mavs fan will say a bad thing about Harris. I will always root for him and he'll be one of my favorite players. He plays the game the right way, always plays hard, is a good person, and now with his game rising, he's got unlimited potential. Sucks we didnt give him that chance to succeed here.

Fixed.
You, me, JD45, Teffer10 and many others wanted to give him all the chances in the world and was getting so frustrated at Avery that we would rather trade Jason Terry (a very good player and likeable person) for an expiring in order to make Avery let Harris loose.

LOL, I was hurting since the day the 1st trade was agreed upon. I gained a lot of respect of George when he refused the tarde...just to get heartbroken again when we kept Stack and sent Diop.

George was like that Hawks minority owner who opposed the addition of picks to the JJ deal.

Luckily for Atlanta, it all worked out in the end. Will we have the same happy ending? Stay tuned, Forth Worth!

The Mavs should have traded Dirk instead of Harris.

It just gets worse and worse. And worst of all, Cuban can't be fired.

I miss Devin. BUT the trade is done and Kidd has been great to start the season.

Devin is option 1a in New Jersey. Here he was behind Dirk, Howard, and even Terry to an extent. DH was good for the Mavs but limited by his order in the hierarcy and a coach that wouldn't turn him loose.

Best of luck Devin. Go Jason Kidd.

No more, please. Not on top of all this rich Thanksgiving food. Just thinking about it again makes me woosy.

Too late ... I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

No more Devin memories, please. It's too traumatic. :sour:

Harris' issues have always been confidence and consistency. He's clearly a more confident player now, though the consistency is still too early to determine (looks good, though). Of course, we all figured he'd improve with more minutes and a larger role in the offense. Wasn't gonna get that here, though.

But you've inadvertently pointed to an issue that's bothered me all along: why in the world would the Mavs acquire Jason Terry AND spend a top-5 draft pick on another PG in the same year? Then, why give BOTH players huge extensions?

They tried to retool with youth and compete for a championship at the same time, and it didn't work. Had they opted to trade Devin earlier, we may very well have a championship now. Had they opted to trade (or not re-sign) the vets, we may very well have a championship now. Instead, they tried to miraculously accomplish both, and we've won nothing. Food for thought.

At the time of Terry's extension, Harris wasn't a sure thing. They should have traded Terry after our 2006 run (right around the same time they extended Harris). They tried Maggette, but the Clippers owner turned it down..much to Dunleavy's disapproval. If Dunleavy was the GM, the deal would have been done and we would not be having this discussion right now. However, the Mavs FO should have looked elsewhere more seriously.

I just have problems with it from every angle, from drafting Harris with JET already on board to having to re-sign both of them because we couldn't rely on either enough to run the show on their own. That's also complicated by the fact that we had high-priced vets already in place at the wings (Stack and Finley), so drafting another wing wasn't really a need at the time.

The Harris idea was just mismanaged from day one, IMO.

Avery Johnson ruined Devin Harris in Dallas. He never had confidence here because he was Avery's robot. You have to leave players with his kind of skills the hell alone. I had hope for the Mavs before the Kidd trade but I felt like if Devin developed into the best player on the Mavs, they could be a championship team. He is the ONE guy on the Mavs that could stop a run by getting a basket or getting to the free throw line. To think we gave up 2 1st rounder with him is a little depressing.

All that being said, he is still on an average Net team where he can thrive and he has been destroying Steve Nash off the dribble since he was a rook. I am happy for Devin.
