I don't see a problem with the Mavs winning 50+ this season, however I do see a quick exit in the playoffs this year.

Re: Are We a 50 Win Team With This Current Team
I think the question should be "Are we a 40 win team with this current team".
41-41 is where this team is headed without a trade.
We are a very average team. However, I'm sure there will be some type of trade before TDL so I'm waiting to see what happens.

Re: Are We a 50 Win Team With This Current Team
I said that that 46 wins (Vegas' over/under for the Mavs) would be easily beaten before the season started. Then I felt pretty stupid after the 2-7 start. Now I am feeling much better about it again. I look at our upcoming schedule and I could easily see us having 6 more wins than losses. Let's say we go 9-3 over the next 12. That puts us at 18-11. We could go 29-24 the rest of the way and we are ahead of the Vegas over/under. We would have to go only 32-21 to get to 50. Now of course things could fall apart with major injuries but if we get Josh back in the mix with the way the team is coming together I think 50 wins is likely.

I think we are about a 50 win team. No way we can win the championship without doing some kind of trade though... Maybe for Vince or Kaman.

I don't know how many wins it will take to get a top-4 spot, but I think the Mavs would have to play a fringe playoff team to get out of the first round. So maybe a top-2 spot is more necessary.

no way we can get 50 wins unless we make Gasol type of trade happen which we cannot

Re: Are We a 50 Win Team With This Current Team
This isn't meant as an insult to the thread, MainEv3nt, but who really cares how many wins we might get in the regular season. We all got a taste of going deep in the playoffs until the last couple of years. The only question that really matters is whether this team can take us there again.
I'd like our chances a whole lot better if we had one more really solid player in the starting rotation (obviously at the sg position). JET, Diop, Bass and crew are a decent bench. A Richardson, or Wallace level player in the starting five would make me feel a whole lot better. Unfortunately, I don't think we have the assets to make a real upgrade there.
Howard has been out, Dirk is not shooting well, those 2 things would normally spell disaster, but we're keeping our heads above water. One thing that isn't being discussed much is the fact that we seem to be playing pretty good defense so far this year. That's a good sign for the rest of the season and the playoffs if it continues.
So, 50 wins, yeah, maybe. But I'd rather win 47, peak at the right time, and get something done in the playoffs.

Re: Are We a 50 Win Team With This Current Team
2nd leading rebounding team.....
3 top 30 scorers....
PG who can get a triple double any day he decides.
7-1 w/o Stack (the competition don't matter since 6 of them was without our 2nd leading scorer & rebounder).
Yeah, we definatly can get 50 wins.
We'll be 8-1 w/o Stack after tonight.

I agree completely. When you win 67 games and get hammered in the first round, I tend to lose interest in regular season records.

I think we would be able to win around 47-52 games, but the playoffs are all that matter.

Re: Are We a 50 Win Team With This Current Team
I think this is a acid test game for the team tonight on whether it can win or fail to win. The Suns are a fringe playoff team just as the Mavs are and tonights game should show just how close the Mavs really are.

DUDE
WALLACE SUX
AND HIS CONTRACT SUX
Richardson i can take but WALLACE SUX, Jho tore him up offensively and defensively
i know im gonna sound like a fakeass mavz fan
but
I dont wanna make the playoffs as a 7th seed or 8th seed for just this year
we gotta get in the top 4 or top 6 cause i know we wont be able to beat any of thhe teams in the top 2 slots
if we dont make it to the playoffs we have a chance to enter the top 10 in the 2009 draft and hopefully pick up someone who could be a positive addition to our ball club and make a nice run in 2009-2010
hopefully playoffs

Re: Are We a 50 Win Team With This Current Team
to the OP:
yes, 50 wins is doable
to sweet daddy:
thats what I'm preaching since last season, the mavs need a quality SG to survive in the playoffs. this team plays good ball right now, the D is great, dirk, terry and lil JJ Bear are playing good enough to keep winning games even without joho.
but in the playoffs that wont be enough. we need a shooting guard who plays solid on D and contributes on O.
where to get one is the difficult part here

Wallace does not suck. One game proves nothing. I don't like his medical history and I don't like the length of his contract because of that history, but if a deal of Howard. Stack & Bass for Richardson and Wallace ever arose, Dallas should definatly do it.

Re: Are We a 50 Win Team With This Current Team
that'd be something I'd jump on immediately. I dont see the 'cats doing it though.
but getting a valuable SG in a trade with howard and than the virtual expiring stack and fillers for a solid SF would be perfect.

Re: Are We a 50 Win Team With This Current Team
This is not something that deserves it's own thread, and is as meaningless as our +/- 50 games is this question...
Were we really as bad as we thought through the 1st 9 games?
We won 2 (Spurs and Wolves)
We lost 2 we that there was no excuse to lose (Clips & Bulls)
Our other 5 losses came against the Cavs, Lakers, Magic, Rockets and Denver who have a combined 69-24 record
63-12 record when you take out games against each other
The other 12 losses came against Boston 3X, Porland 2X, New Orleans 2X, Indiana 2X, Spurs, Detroit, and Memphis.
Now granted, we need to beat these kind of teams, but concidering we had a new coach, new system, and figuring out our swing position (including Stack's 1/6 shooting nights, w/o Williams, w/o George, watcing Green, watching Wright, etc.) we really played about expected except for the Bulls and Clippers.

Ah hell, Mark Stein put us at # 8 in his Power Ranking's and Hollinger has us at # 6 on his Power Rankings.
Time for the Mavs to lay an egg.
