Why don't Rick give Gana a fair chance?

Post#1 » by Darren » Thu Dec 18, 2008 11:10 am

Everybody on the roster gets some PT but Diop?
Rick would rather put DIrk or Bass at C than Gana.
What the problem with the kid?

Diop can't be on the floor at the same time as Devean George. Just like he couldnt be on the court with Adrian Griffin. No offensive help from two players on the court is a big liability. I have the feeling Diop's days are numbered.

50 bucks says GREEN8 shows up on this thread before the days end with his daily rant about Gerald Green getting 3 minutes a game..

But to answer your question about Diop- the reason he doesnt get playing time is simple... He sucks. Hes overpaid, his contract is way too long, and Bass is way better (and Bass isnt even that good).

His contract wouldn't be so bad on a team that would play him 20 minutes a night. It's basically MLE, right?

Somebody with a need for a defensive big should be willing to take him. Charlotte needs bigs. It's been mentioned here several times ... Diop and Bass for Wallace (plus filler to make it work) then use Howard as trade bait for a center.

last season we made a big trade and everyone thought another would be made to get us a SG or a big man to backup Dampier. That didn't happen. This season people are willing to trade Josh and Diop but in seperate trades. The problem is you might do one and then not the other and doing just one doesn't do the trick.

We need to tell the other teams that these deals need to be co-ordinated and conditional that we do both trades. If we trade Josh for kaman and then don't get Wallace we would still have a hole at the 3. The 2 is not our biggest hole anymore it's a low post offensive threat. Terry Wright Green all cover the 2 spot somewhat and definitely better than the past few years. Terry' has greatly improved his scoring over past years and with Kidd complimenting him we have a PG that can guard bigger 2's.

The lineup of Kaman Dirk Kidd Terry and whoever is left doesn't do as much for me without a SF. Howard provides a level of play that would be missed greatly. Personally I can't see LAC trading Kaman at any price but they might so we should pursue talks. He might walk for nothing in a few years not wanting to be on a losing team.

Damp is playing pretty well this year, better than expected. If Damp start sucking it up then I bet we see more Gana.

Harris - Terry - Howard - Dirk - Diop = GREAT TEAM
Kidd - Terry - George - Dirk - Diop = God awful team

The red part has nothing to do with his playing time; just you hatin'.

The blue parts are a matter of opinion in which I do not share.

But you did beat me to it with the GREEN8 comment. :D

Damp's and Diop's MPG are down 3 MPG each, but I think Diop is getting more DNPs

Barea+Terry+Green+Bass+Diop for 10-12 minutes a night would be a nice infusion of offense and make Diop useful. The problem is Rick for whatever reason does not believe in Diop,Green or Williams enough to do it. Diop is not a scorer but with those 4 he would'nt have to be he could just concentrate on rebounding, blocking shots and clogging the paint.

You can't play 4-on-5 at either end of the floor, unless the 4 are very, very good on that end. Like I've said time and time again, the Mavs simply don't have the offensive talent necessary to make up for Diop.

Diop gets plenty of chance, he goes in and contributes. It's not like he get multiple DNPs like some other players on the team, like Singleton or ??Green??. Could be that the Mavs are showcasing Williams and George to be included in the Stack trade. Diop is just a solid role player nothing more nothing less. Green on the other hand, needs minutes a lot of them.

Yes he did. He had 2 DNP-coach's decision. I never said he had more than our scrubs, I said he is getting more than Dampier, which is completely true.

I agree with the poster who said that Dampier is playing better than Diop. Damp has earned the 30 minutes he's been getting. He dominated the game against the Lakers earlier this year even though we lost. If Dampier played like that every game we would be a legit title contender. However, Carlisle will soon find out that there is a two headed Damp. One that is good, and one that sucks. The one that sucks shows up more often.
